Yeah, after Sayid insisted that he help Ben, you can see Ben smirking as he walks away. He got what he wanted even though he was "trying to convince" Sayid to leave it alone. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben was responsible for Nadia's death and the traffic photo was a fake and it was all designed to enlist Sayid as a mercenary. If you saw next weeks preview, Jack has Spoiler appendicitis.
I think at some point, they had a partnership that was severed when Ben took the Island for himself. Maybe there was a gentleman's agreement. Maybe this is a game to them, like the RISK game pointed to. Penny-Desmond: genuine love. Widmore-Penny: father-daughter (but who knows, maybe she's adopted) Widmore-Desmond: I think this one is interesting. On the surface, he has contempt for Desmond and coldly rejects him when he asks for Penny's hand. On the other hand, he tells Desmond this season that he doesn't hate him, and leaves the faucet running intentionally. It could be that he's been intentionally working Desmond over to indirectly open the Island back up for him. If so, Widmore is not "enslaved by time." Widmore-Ben: Widmore Corporation was involved with Dharma, Ben came to the Island as a son of a Dharma staff worker, Ben initiated the massacre of all Dharma personnel and shut Widmore out of access to the Island. Widmore is pooling his resources to get the "keys" to the Island back, employing Team Freighter to abduct Ben. Both Ben and Widmore want to have control of the Island, and to keep its existence and location completely secret from the public. The hoax crash site was done to keep searchers from finding the island, and neither is likely to let any survivors off the Island without assurances that they won't spill the beans. Locating the Island without a "map" is pretty much impossible, as it is deeper than physical location. I'm pretty sure it's a Narnia style stepping between worlds thing, so you need to know how to access "portals" to enter it. Something has to happen with the freightor to sink all of Widmore's location tricks. They did need Team Jack to use the sat phone to lock onto the Island location (though Naomi did make a jump before then as well). The last two groups you didn't mention: The Island "Natives" (former Hostiles) that seem to hold the Island's sanctity as their highest priorities, and the Castaways who are the wild card to the whole equation. My guess is the series will be resolved as the Castaways and Natives come to an understanding and together lock both Widmore and Ben out of the Island to preserve it and save it from exploitation. Also Widmore and Widmore Corp not only seem to have Dharma ties, but also with Paik Industries (Sun's semi-Gangster father). I don't think he had time to call in a hit, since he apparently 'ported off the island after Nadia was killed in LA. He absolutely played off Sayid to recruit him. Be interesting to see who had her killed and why. Benry, in a different episode, referred to the Nadia murder and said Sayid was thinking with his heart instead of a gun. Obviously more backstory to be seen. Could be that Sayid rejected a "deal" with Team Widmore/Abaddon and Nadia got offed because of it.
Sahrawis (people from Sahara) does not wear that type of clothes, in the Maghreb Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco we do not wear palestina scarf for exemple, but we do however support the palestinians, that is an hole other discussion. JUst wanted to say that, otherwise great episode
Nice succinct recap of who stands where, emjohn. Just one question: where do you think Jacob fits into this scenario?
I didn't think it was as good as some of the others but some good things happened. Not much happened on the island aside from the appendicitis storyline and Jin stepping up to try to get Sun on the helicopter. The flash forward was where the story really moved forward. Jack and Kate lived together and were engaged. We see the beginning of Jack's pill popping. To me, the most interesting thing was that Sawyer CHOSE to stay on the island.
Whats the freaking deal with Christian Sheppard? Great Episode. Was very upset about a few things, but I dont want to spoil anyone who foolishly lurks in this thread before watching the episode. Not to rant or anything, but if it has already aired on TV, show is it a spoiler if we discuss it in here? OK, off my soapbox. Sorry, LOSTies.
*spoilers for those who didn't watch* I thought this episode was not as great as the recent ones, and a little predictable. I knew Jack was going to meet his dad, Kate was talking to Sawyer.. I have a feeling Jin isn't dead as they showed his grave before, and him not getting on the helicopter kind of solidifies it. The interesting thing was when they showed next week's episode where that one guy said he's been dead for 12 years...I thought the producers were saying that they weren't going to be dead and that's how series will not end. If so, they've been trying hard to make it seem that way.
I don't think anyone can say, unless they're the ultimate spoiler hound. I'd think the simplest theory would be that he is the manifestation of the Island or the Island's spirit. It could also be that Smokey = Jacob. When Benry took Locke there, there was a line of ash around the cabin. It's possible that was a tipoff. Obviously the Island is more than just an Island, and I question whether it's really something on Earth, or if it sits on its own plane of existence. He's definitely a huge key to the puzzle. That his coffin was empty post-crash leads to a lot of questions, and a possible "Jesus" nod (Christian....Shepherd of Men). The guys with too much time on their hands have isolated him as being one of the whisper voices that people occasionally hear out in the jungle. As to last night, I'm always trying to take a grain of salt as to whether we're seeing the real deal vs a apparition. Note that what drew Jake out to the lobby was the [ahem]SMOKE detector. Two seasons left, and I think they're perfectly on course for revealing things at a good pace. Too soon, and it just becomes a generic story. Too late, and there's a massive letdown in the series finale with an overhyped and overanticipated "big reveal". Evan
I think that if an episode has aired then it is fair game. If somebody who hasn't seen the most recent episode sees this thread bumped and reads it then it's their own fault. They should assume we're talking about the episode that just aired. I think that was pretty much assumed. The date on his gravestone was the same as the date of the crash and the Oceanic 6 told everyone that everybody died in the crash except for 2 who died later. Regarding famicom's comments on next weeks preview: Spoiler The producers said the Losties weren't going to be dead and in purgatory. AFAIK, they never made such a claim regarding anyone else. And it's not like we haven't "seen" dead people walking around like Christian Sheppard. So I'm not totally surprised about that preview.
Agreed... IMHO, it wasn't that good of an episode last night...Yeah, you got a glimpse into the pill popping, but other than that, nothing, IMHO...Jack jealous of Sawyer, sure, but I didn't get why she wouldn't tell him what she did for him...
This episode was just average. I didn't understand how Sawyer could be calling Kate, if Sawyer chose to remain on the island? Does that mean Sawyer initially stayed on the island and then later left or was he still on the island when he made the call to Kate. Can someone explain how this is possible?
They never actually said she was talking with Sawyer. In fact, Kate claims she was talking to another mother. Later, she said she made Sawyer a promise before she left the island and that's why she went out. Maybe Sawyer was on the phone but I don't think so. I think the phone scene existed only to show us that Kate thought she could sneak off and do the favor without Jack knowing because of his schedule and also as motive for Jack to come home early and grill her about what she's been doing.
Sawyer does have a daughter out there. It could be that he asked Kate to visit with her or pass something along to her. Evan
QUESTION: Spoiler Other than Ecko . . .Who else survived the Smoke Monster? I mean I was kind of surprised that the Soldiers made it out ok. Was anyone else?
Locke has stared down Smokey in the open, and declared it "beautiful" Several others, including Eko and Kate, have been "stared down" by Smokey. Some theorize that it's willing to observe you on the first encounter, but afterwards may come for you. Didn't help the pilot though. For example, I mentioned Locke hanging out with Smokey early in S1. Later, during the trip to the Black Rock for TNT, Smokey grabbed and tried to take Locke down a hole, until Jack and Kate threw dynamite down the hole to free him. There's ALSO been all the times were Smokey manifested itself as someone/thing from the survivor's past. Many times, it tried to trick the person into suicide (Jack, Hurley), but not always. Evan
******SPOILER to those who have not seen the last episode*********** Another thing: The Oceanic 6 represents "survivors" of oceanic 815 crash. The public presumes the rest of the passengers dead, including Sawyer and Jin. But Sawyer is still alive, according to Kate's contact with him. Therefore, Jin is most likely not dead either, and the tombstone was just a memorial.
Again, I really don't think any of the Oceanic 6 have had any post island conversations with those that had been left behind. They never said Kate was talking with Sawyer. That's just an assumption y'all have made. If Kate and Sawyer could talk then why can't Sun and Jin? Yeah, Jin's not dead. All of the losties except for the 6 are believed to be dead by the rest of the world and there's probably a tombstone out there for each one with the same date (except maybe for the 2 that supposedly survived the crash but died later on). I do believe Kat's favor to Sawyer involves visiting somebody and whoever that is is who she was talking to on the phone. I do not believe she is in direct contact with Sawyer.
That's why she was being so secretive. I don't think ANYONE is supposed to know, including the person's trust she has the most: Jack. Also, Jack seemed more upset at the fact that Sawyer "decided to stay on the island." I thought he would be more upset at the fact that Kate and Sawyer have had a past relationship
