What I wonder about is if the miraculous healing that Rose and Locke (and Jin?) experienced will fade or stop entirely now that the electromagnetism thingy happened.
If the EM has been healing Locke, Son, and Rose, throw the "scientific explanation" spiel from the producers out the window. Even if you believe in wearing a magnetic bracelet to help an arthritic wrist. A supermagnet ould not pull a plane out of the sky. But an EM blast could knock ot its on board electronics, leading to a freefall. Bingo on the "explosion" questions. No way would this show kill of Locke like that anyway. If you don't see them dead, they're not dead. How far could Michael possibly go in that Popeye boat? 20 miles? Taking Desmond's "snowglobe" talk and Henry Gale's very precise heading instruction (NW - 325 deg), maybe there's a hidden exit? Why would Michael's compass work and no one else's? Gale couldn't have anticipated the magnet to be shut down. PV - they can't pull the veil on the mystery until Season 5 or so. They clearly have been moving in one direction the entire time, with our slowly being able to get a fuller picture as we go. If they were to just throw everything on the table, what would we have for the remaining seasons? A survivor-styled soap opera? I'd rather be raking my brain then watching Coupling Island. Evan
I have a feeling we'll be seeing the Others backstory at the beginning of next season, just like we saw the Tailies version this season. So we'll be seeing the first two months yet again, from another view. I wonder if the Arctic guys and the Polar Bear from season one have anything in common.
They're supposed to be focusing more on some of the other original survivors next season. We'll see if they last any longer than the cast members they added this season. If Eko's gone, which I agree he most likely isn't, Bernard is the only tail section survivor left.
do we know for sure that cindy is dead? she disappears when the tail section was crossing the island, but never shows if she's dead.... same for the 11 or so other tail people that were kidnapped when they first crashed.
People throwing out destiny now seem to forget that the plane had been off course for hours before crashing, so there is definately more than Desmond's late button pusing responsible for bringing them there.
True, the plan might have been to bring the plane down in some manner other than a crash. If they (the Others) truly do not wish to hurt these people, and most indication is that they don't, then they probably wouldn't choose a violent crash to get them there.
I think the build up of electro magnetic energy was pulling them off course and then when the plane got close enough it pulled the plane apart.
Um, I think the island is in the middle of Antarctica. A tropical hot spot or refuge hidden in a polar region is a common theme in comic books. You see them in Watchmen, X-Men, etc. And we know that the show's creators are comic fans, so you could see how the idea would occur to them. If the "pearl" is in the middle of the island, as shown on the map (and which would make sense as a control center), then does that imply that there is a protective shell around it and the island? There seems to be an EM field keeping the island hidden and keeping people from escaping it, but could it also be protecting the island? Say from an arctic environment? It could be that Pen has discovered that her father is part of Hanso, that Hanso has created an arctic refuge for experimentation, and that Desmond has been banished there, but the EM field (combined maybe with the south pole) makes the refuge (and therefore Desmond) impossible to locate. So she hires guys to monitor Antarctica for strange EM signals (she did say she could find anyone with enough money). Anyway, I don't think this has anything to do with the polar bear - it's clear that Walt somehow brought that thing to life. But I do think that it's highly likely that the island is in Antarctica, hidden and protected by an EM field.
I don't think so. The magnet wasn't going wild for that long before Desmond turned it off. It was only just started to pull pots and pans around before he put the numbers in, so I don't see how it could be strong enough to rip the plane in two from that distance when it wasn't even ripping tables off the floor or crushing the countdown facing yet.
Is Lost really designed to last 7 seasons, or is this speculation? I hope its not - I don't think fans will have the patience for it. I suspect after another year or two, people will grow tired of the waiting, and I'd hate for them to suddenly cancel the show without having answered everything.
Is anyone else wondering what the hieroglyphics mean? And why did the hatch door come flying out of the sky and slam into the beach?
I would be shocked if Locke, Ecko and Desmond were killed off in this manner, think they'll appear in season 3. I, personally, like the season finale, lots of things coming up Did anyone else get that planet of the apes feel when Desmond was following Kelvin to the boat...
Those are included in my grab bag of about three dozen questions I have about what is going on. Moreso, I want to know who "Henry Gale" and the rest of the other are, why Gale gave Michael the coordinates to follow, why the people who are apparently close to one of the poles picked up the magnetic anomaly, who the people close to the poles are, what Desmond's girlfriend (and likely her father) have to do with this, why there is an uncanny connection between all the characters, what the monster is, why there's a giant electromagnet buried on the island, why (apparently) destroying it turned the sky colors and created the humming noise, why inputting numbers into essentially a dos prompt discharged the electromagnet, and what do the others want with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer, just to name a few. Something that seems plausible to me for the hatch door: Let's say it had somehow become magnetized due to being so close to the electromagnet. We were led to believe that Desmond inserting and turning the key would destroy the facility and presumably the electromagnet. What if instead it reversed the polarity of the electromagnet? It would seemingly be similar to taking two magnets and putting the north or south poles together. Now, I don't know a whole lot about magnetism and magnetic fields, so can anybody confirm if this idea would be possibility?
Ok well some things were learned but still, the show has yet to answer these 2 questions.... WTF is a polar bear doing on the island.... WTF is the black dust thingy robot monster....
The first time the hieroglyphics showed up they translated to "someone will die" or something like that. Does anyone remember if the hieroglyphics from last night are the same as the ones that showed up before?
this was emailed to me: Will a rescue effort be a part of Season 3? Mr. Lindelof and Mr. Cuse (executive producers) would not say but allowed that if this season was about the hatch, next season will be about the Others, as led by the oblique Henry Gale (played by Michael Emerson, who will join the regular cast). Mr. Cuse listed what viewers will learn about the Others by this time next year: "Who are these people? How many of them are there? What is their history? What are they trying to accomplish?" Beyond serving as a teaser, the finale's last minutes were incredibly important to the larger story, Mr. Lindelof said, particularly since this was the first time in 49 hours of the show that "Lost" went off the island in the present, rather than in a flashback. "It's time to actually blow up several theories of the show," he said. "People who believe that they're in purgatory or that they're subjects of an experiment are going to start reassessing those theories based on the fact that we are literally showing you the outside world."
