My friend's name was Kevin. He was 47. He worked for the company where I previously worked for 23 years. He was diagnosed over the 4th of July holiday. The strange thing was, this guy really tried to take care of himself. He went for regular physicals, exams, and routinely got blood tests done to detect PSA levels and stress tests for his heart, etc. He worked out regularly as well. Then all of the sudden, he was having stomach issues, and they got bad, so he went to the doctor. They said he had colon blockage, and they admitted him for surgery. Once they opened him up, they found a tumor the size of his fist, and the cancer had spread to most of his major organs. They gave him 30 days to live. He lived a few more than that...and the Lord gave him enough time to be able to say goodbye to his son, his family, and make amends where he needed to. No symptoms until it was way too late. Never detected. Nothing. The doctors called it colon cancer, because it started in that region, but this was a particularly aggressive form of cancer. You just never know. You never know if/when/why nor what. Tomorrow is never promised. Hug your loved ones today. Make peace with those that you may have had a falling out with. Let people know they are important to you. If you would keep his family in your prayers tonight....
sobering read HOOP-T, really made me sit back and reflect how lucky I've been so far. I'll pray for his family.
Words to live by. Sorry to hear about your friend. He was fortunate at least to have that chance to say goodbye.
sorry to hear that... i just read a fact today that one out of three people are diagnosed with cancer during there lifetime.. very sad
Very sorry. I guess when your time is up, your time is up no matter how healthy you are. Do you know if cancer ran in his family?
+++ Colon cancer is very deadly. It's very important to have a colonoscopy done every 5 years if you are over 40 years old.
I'm sorry for your loss. I think I'll take off work early today and have a nice long dinner with some of my friends. Thanks for sharing that with us.
