Clingan has something you can not teach....height. And he uses it well. Sengun will improve some but if he doesnt improve his 3pt shot, they will eventually move him with or without Clingan.
It would be hard to believe a GM could trade up a top 3 pick for only a veteran and a swap. That seems like a historic discount. Houston needs to hold firm and require that future pick as well. If someone thinks they have found their center of the future, they'll pay. I'm unsure why Charlotte or Portland would be excited about a Clingan move based on their existing rosters. Memphis looks like the best fit for Clingan if Atlanta doesn't blow everything up. I'm not sure why the Hawks would pick Risacher over Clingan. Though he has had some success in the French league, he's a Kyle Anderson-level athlete (but half an inch shorter).
Clingan got torched by Edey……why waste a 3rd on him when you can trade down for the better and bigger center?????
I think most everything is a smoke screen right now. Atlanta and Houston desperately want to trade down or out of this draft. Washington will stay put and select Sarr or Risacher. I think the trade offers to move up are going to end up totally unimpressive and everyone just stays put. I pray that the Rockets don’t panic and trade for Smart and #9. Spurs are sitting as pretty as anyone in this draft. They can stay put and get Clingan or Sheppard and Carter or a host of others at 8.
So they want the guy who refused to even come in for a workout.... that wouldn't be a starter ever. Sounds smart.
I'm not a fan of the idea of drafting Clingan, but this is not necessarily true if there are multiple teams interested in acquiring the big man
Clingan is not in the same league as Walker Kessler. Kessler is faster, quicker, and a better shot blocker but went 22nd overall 2 years ago! Kessler averaged over 2 more blocks per game his sophomore season compared to Clingan and was the NCAA defensive player of the year. Clingan isn't even close to being the best defender in the draft. I think even Zach Edey will be a better defensive center than Clingan. Better rebounder and post defense will block and alter just as many shots. Edey keeps people out of the paint, they don't even try to score at the rim against him.
He played two games vs Connecticut, which one are you referring to? 1/31/24: #1 Conn, D Carter: 6/18, 33.3 (FG%), 1/4, 25 (3P%) 7/11, 63.6 (FT%), ..............................................9 Rebs, 4 Ast, 20 pts. ..............................................[ Clingan at 7 pts, 3 Rebs, 1 BLK.....15 mins] 3/9/24: #2 Conn, D Carter: 9/19, 47.4 (FG%), 2-7, 28.6 (3P%), .............................................15 Rebs, 4 Ast, 24 pts, 2 Blks, 2 stls ............................................. [ Clingan was 11 pts, 7 Rebs, 2 Blks.....27 mins] ............................................. [ Karaban was top UConn scorer with 16 pts ] 9 and 15 Rebs as a 6'2" guard.,..Clingan was 7 and 3 Rebs at 7'2" 20 and 24 pts vs #1 and #2 team in the country
The Clingan love is over the top. He has a great PR group. I think he’s going to drop like a lead balloon. If the Rockets fall for this sh*t, I will go from a Stone fan to a Stone hater.
Wemby, Jokic, Gobert, Kat, Lively, and others I’m blanking on. There’s a lot of size out west, so I understand the thought behind Clingan. If we draft him 3rd, it won’t be for him to play 12-15 minutes a game. I wouldn’t cry over it, but I’m still team Reed all the way. If Clingan is good, we’re getting a haul for Sengun. I just don’t wanna trade our best player, especially since nobody has emerged as that guy
I think Rockets sending out surrogates propping him up to draw interest from another team. Clingan has same agent as Sengun. I don't think they let him workout with Rockets because they don't want Sengun and Clingan together
The Spurs also can stay put and both guys they select will immediately get a lot of minutes. they are going to suck next year and want to suck next year. They are in full tank mode and want to draft another superstar in 25 and/or 26. They are in the asset gathering mode like we were and, other than this year, they are picking the right drafts to do it in. If Wemby stays healthy, the Rockets, Spurs, and OKC will all be championship contenders in 3 years, if the NBA will allow it.
Let's be honest, whichever player we get is irrelevant, they're all going to be battling the same Stans as everyone else has the last 3 years...
