Didn't they win like 43 games the year before under Rudy?

This cooling off period (or whatever you call it) is a complete sham and the Rockets need to end it. I'm losing respect for Les with each passing day. There is no justifiable reason for the delay other than public relations or trying to prove the NY writer to be wrong. Both sides should have already announced JVG isn't returning.

Tell you what, with hiring a new coach after going 52-30 despite a boatload of injuries and needing obvious roster improvements, the Rockets will be severely under the gun next season. If things don't go well they will get royally pounded by the fan base like never before and I'll join in. This season, the pressure was pretty much all on JVG. He came through with a great regular season and a playoff failure. Next season, the guns will be trained on the organizational brass and I will spare them no mercy if things deteriorate. If the new coach isn't up to snuff, it will be like an exploding cigar in Les' face. And we will finally get a look at what Moneyball Man can do.

In my mind, I've already moved on from JVG. The Rockets should stop the charade and make official what becomes more obvious with each passing day.

If the Marc Iavaroni rumors are true then they might be just waiting on the Suns to finish up.

This is so much like the Rick Adelman situation... did well with the group, but got let go because he didn't fulfill expectations (created, really, by his own success)..

Turns out the coach was the guy making the team as good as it was..

With 90% of the coaches out there, this wouldn't have been a 52 win team given the injuries... there wouldn't have been the expectations and disappointment in losing to Utah...

Unless they plan on keeping JVG if Iavaroni turns them down, we still have a charade on our hands.

I don't think the salesman thing is critical. Unless you are talking about selling good players to come and to follow JVG's system.

JVG should be gone in my opinion, tto. However, Lopez is trying to make his leaving as being due to silly appearances and caving in to ignorant fans.

Very curious as Lopez seems like a dont rock the boat type of guy. Maybe I have not followed him that closely.

Agreed. JVG does motivate some players. However, a good bit of the top 50 players, Bird, Barkely, Hakeem possibly, could not play for him. In his own way, JVG is a Bobby Knight clone.

I can only imagine what Lopez would write if Les had the gall to desire a better Point Guard - given we've got all we need!

PS, somebody who is less lazy, if you could go back and dig out DaDakota's old posts about Rudy from 2003 (probably about him not being a good motivator), I would be eternally grateful.

Only if you choose to ignore McGrady, Deke, and JHo's contributions.

    right after Rudy resigned
I was just bored off my *ss and did a quick search to kill some time. (No offense to DD, as I was the one who supported JVG this whole time and admit we need a new coach :p)

Edit: that really didn't have much to do with motivation :D

Here you go Sam, DaDa asks for JVG specifically

EDIT: Note to self, don't leave a thread open and come back and reply an hour later.

    That is just low brow.

That "happy drunk" also happened to coach his team to 2 consecutive championships.

It's perfectly clear that Donkey was refering to Rudy T. Another way of describing a Donkey might be an Ass. Surely, that would be more appropiate.

Yep, anyone would be better in my mind than LB, I despise LB.

And I still think JVG was an OK choice for the Steve Francis, Cat team.

This is a different team and requires a different coach.

Different situation this team is in all together, in fact, Rudy would be GREAT for this team....not for the Francis/Mobley team, they needed a disciplinarian (Note: Now that I have seen JVG, he is now on my LB list of NEVER hires)

    Different situations.....

So, to recap, I wanted Mike Dunleavy Sr. as my first choice, but JVG was a good choice in my mind too for the Franchise/Cat team....

But now, the team has changed, and we need a coach for this team....not that one.

Thats just inhumane. Rudy has Overrcome alot of things. the diseas the is being an alcoholic, Cancer and the man has allways maintained he's life loving pesona all the while. for someone to make fun of such a seriouse diseas is nothing short of cowardly.
