The Pistons fired Rick Carlisle after they went to the ECF. Larry Brown came in and won the Championship the next year. (And made it to the Finals, losing to the Spurs, the year after that.)

It must be nice to be MonkeyMagic errr Van Gundy, he has an answer to everyone and everything.

Maybe its gundy's wife. Either way, it is annoying.

Let us throw everything out the window anout what we know about Van Gundy. Or even think we know.

He should be able to make peices fit as a pro coach.

I am not pointing out just one or two, can anyone name a free-agent (besides Battier) that he was able to piece into our game plan?

    That is what I thought.

Did any of you read this thread i wrote yesterday, which got locked (not really sure why)

this sounds exactly like what lopez wrote, no i'm not lopez but...

I WAS RIGHT. If JVG doesnt return this is the reason why

""JVG basketball does not sell. It's slow, its boring, its ugly. Our fastbreak average this season was what 5 points per game? We average about 0.8 dunks a game, about 90 points a game. More important than having a succesful team is being able to make money from of it. How many times were we taken out of the lineup from ABC this season?

Les knows that he needs to get more sellouts, more excitement to keep the people in their seats in the season. He needs a coach to stress the fast break, and high scoring offense. Remember the old Kings when Adelman was the coach. They were about the most exciting team there was. They never won a championship but that Areana has been soldout for years ever since.

52 games won but we were last in the league in terms of excitement. I'm not saying that its smart to change the style of this team. Hell, it may not even work out with Yao being as slow as he is and we'll lose more games next year. But we need youth and athleticism and a coach that can bring that kind of style that we have seen all over the NBA.

Im simply saying that in terms of selling this team, JVG is not the right salesman. Les knows this and in the end this is a bussiness.

like i said earlier, if you want 'excitment' lets get some topless dancers to play.

also, its hard to play "entertaining" basketball (whatever vague and subjective definition you place on that) then its going to be hard with only 2 offensive weapons...1 of which is the slowest in the league

Read the second to last paragraph and then you'll get my full point. I did not agree with this. I'm just saying that its going to happen, agree with it or not. I even think it will be a mistake.

And we traded for Battier, he wasn't a FA.

That is right. So Sura is the only free agent JVG got anything out of? That is not a good track record at all.

That shows an inability to make talent gell or work together, even to "bend" your offense or Defense for the well being of the team. Players are asked to do it all the time. Why can't a coach?

You know, there are days when I like Lopez and days when I seriously question his sanity.

He said back in November of 1999 that there was NO QUESTION the Rockets would move to another city after the 1999 referendum failed.

    Ooops.

He said recently that Yao RIGHT NOW deserves to be among the top 5 centers ever to play the game.

    Er...what?

Yeah, right! The Rockets dont have Shaq so the Rockets can afford to stink it up for another couple of years.

Yeah, my 4000th post was in the game discussion thread, a brilliant analysis of course and little message to you. Something like, "very funny." ;) You have no idea how much I wanted to respond at the time. :D

There in lies the problem. Was it JVG who wanted the players they brought in??

If you blame JVG for the players we have now, did you blame Rudy for Eddie Griffin, Kelvin Kato, Moochie Norris, Mo Taylor, Matt Maloney, Brent Price, ect? There were a ton of bad contracts and draft picks under Rudy too, and many of them affected the salary cap and roster that Jeff had to work with coming in. The Eddie Griffin draft the year before was particularly bad for us.

I mean we did go to the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years, after missing the playoffs for the last 4 years Rudy was here and losing in the first round the 2 years prior to that. 1996-97 was the last time we won a series. So I think some of the Rudy was awesome and Jeff sucks line of thinking is off base.

b/c rudy happened to be the coach while hakeem led a team to championships rudy gets a pass. He gets a pass for poor basketball the following 10 years and the countless draft debacles and poor contracts.

it is off base. It seems as though people have a hard time effectively evaluating this team and its abilities. they want to turn water into wine.

JVG is go as gone and regardless it's good or bad for the team. That's life.

The game play was boring and the killer was he had no adjustments for the series. Getting our butts kicked 3 times in Utah then finally losing game 7 was not pretty.

True, Yao was off, as was Head and Howard. Alston didn't help with his continued bad shooting and while TMac tried, it wasn't enough.

Even last year's champ went out in the 1st round mainly due to Wade not 100%. I would give a pass to Yao for this playoff due to him not really 100%.
He deserves it. He tried hard. Worked harder but his body didn't have it.

Can't teach hops and indurance. It's built up and even he said he lost it when he had to sit out a bunch (32) games.

Back to JVG. It's just time to change and in this NBA, you change the coach, never the players. You play with who you got becuase, THEY ARE UNDER GUARANTEE CONTRACTS!
