thats your problem. you dont see that jazz are more talented, from top to bottom.

they dont need to ask their players to do things they cannot b/c they have a variety of players that have different and versatile skill sets.

why ask yao to guard boozer? b/c putting yao on okur takes him away from the paint and then the jazz will have a clear lane. its the lessor of two evils.

why rafer play 40+ minutes? b/c there is not a good enough backup.

tmac heart? why not yao...he might have well stuck his head in the dirt...perhaps the better question is...why ask you to reasonable look at the game?

who is the rockets 3rd best player? battier?
who is utahs 3rd best player? okur maybe

who is the rockets 4th best player? rafer?
    the jazz? AK maybe.

who is the 5th best player for the rockets? luther head?
    jazz? harping or fisher

i think you see the trend, or at least you should

I can't wait to see Rick Adelman bring a motion offense, too. I hope Les goes that way. I think we'll really enjoy watching that kind of basketball. I think the players will enjoy it. I think it gets the most from our stars. I wouldn't want to see more of the same, from another like-minded coach. That hardly seems wise. Our stars have good defensive intelligence, by now. We should try to use them a different way, to score more.

Personally, I've never liked JVG or his brand of basketball. That's a matter of taste. I'm not surprised Lopez went with a moralizing good vs evil article, because he always does that - he's really not a very clever writer. Moralists love to draw lines in the sand and whack away at scapegoats. I am surprised he went at Les with such a personal attack. That doesn't seem particularly smart. It's funny, JVG seems to inspire this sort of thing. You see style and personnel questions become very personal, with the loyalists.

Here's to something fresh. Good luck Morely, and good luck, coach.

Didn't the new GM say this is a 60-win team? Why this Lopez guy call a bad team? Is he implying that JVG is a bad coach, because this is a team he assembled, and coached.

THe Win Now Era is over and JVG BALL isn't good for team development. He is only able to coach one way and that is his way.
If you wanted to be an active and playing Rocket you had better play as
JVG wants you to. JVG failed to develop what players do best, ie favorit moves etc.
Just look what he has done to Yao Ming. Yao came into the NBA able to do all sorts of moves and was a great passer now he needs to reinvent himself and get away from the restricted game play of Jvg. The Rockets need a coach with experience and a young assistant to quickly learn the ropes and follow to take command in a year's time. Steve Novac can go back to being a spotup three point shooter who is a role player to boost scoring when needed, instead of just taking paid rest on the pine. With JVG departing we can see if V Span has anything of substance. if not let him return to his homeland, where he is wanted. The new Coach can possibly get away from sentiment and can make decissions with the new General Manager Morey as to the team's needs and retire/trade dead wood, make trades, make a good draft pick, move previous starters with less talent back to playing back up roles.etc.
They should not even be afraid to trade a star player or two if its to their advantage to turn high salary into two or three good contributors eg.....
(Yao, Tracy, Battier & Alston). Although I would think that Yao will be the centerpiece of the new team.

Just ask yourself: Should Rockets be a crap team with a healthy TMAC and a 90% Yao?

If JVG says yes here, please step back to coach wnba and let me be the coach. I can do better.

Thanks for the memories JVG but your time has come. Those still wanting JVG you can follow him to the next team he coaches in the league. As per the Rockets I can't wait to see the moves that will be made to improve the team. I am especially looking forward to Yao working out with The Dream. JVG turn Yao to a damn robot on the post and I hope the next coach is able to bring out Yao's true all around game that Rudy T had going when he was coach.

You know, despite your little set up joke when I was waiting to post number 4000 (I guess I forgive you, :p ) I think you are right on. I hate the authoritarian, demotivating, negative style. Probably great to reign in Francis, et al, but not with Yao's and TMac's fragile ego's. I know TMac says Jeff is the best coach he has played for, but I don't think JVG's personality is as good for his mental health as the thinks. Del Harris proved he could get more out of Yao.

If you want to argue that JVG shouldn't be fired, that's cool. But to say that there's no reason to fire him is idiotic. 90% of coaches have some kind of reason why they should be fired. Avery Johnson and Phil Jackson have reasons why they should be fired. It doesn't mean they should be, it just shows that almost everyone has a reason to be fired.

So, in one sentece he says we've very close. In the next he says we're a bad team.

Wanting a better coach is a crime!?

Shaq want a championship coach and send Del Harris packing who took the Lakers to WCF. It paid off Shaq for 3 championships.

Shaq want a championship coach and send Stan Van Gundy packing for Pat Riley's return. It paid off Shaq for another championship.

Are we talking about championship or 1st round playoff exit?

    Houston sport writers stink.

the only thing that bugs me about these coaches change is that we all know basically we are a half court team because of Yao and I really don't see any coach out there that is good in this system other than Jvg. Rick Adelman? plz.. just look at his team in sacramento and compare their personnel to ours. Do you think hayes, head, yao, snyder even tmac will thrive in motion offense when they can't even make an entry pass to low post and none really have a legit midrange game?

this team is is basically made for an inside-out offense and a whole lot of hustle plays like Miami last year. I just think we need players who will not defer to our superstars. Mike james was being bashed here all the time for being selfish but he's aggressive and doesn't need anybody to make plays for him unlike battier, head, howard and rafer who needs to be really open to make an impact. even so they still manage to screw it up.Teams just close on them and they disappear.

I have to agree with that. The Rockets did not play with consistency often this season, especially in the playoffs. I think the main reason is that the players were not motivated and not felt fun playing for JVG. Their good efforts were from afforded concentration and outside pressure, not from motivation and enjoyment within, that's why they didn't last. They were also forced to play in rigid JVG styles, that's kind of demotivating too.

I know it's hard to win and amuse the fans at the same time. But we didn't win and we played ugly, boring games.
It's time to change. Either replace coach, or replace players. We got to do something. So lopez, shut up!
