I agree with you......I think they are a few tweaks and a good coach away from truly competing.

Sometimes the coach is not the right one for the personalities on the team....that is the case here in Houston.

JVG was ok for Francis, Cat and Cato....not for this group.....

You forgot who put that team together. Lets not forget who we had before JVG came here. Mo Taylor, Noochie Norris, Eddie Griffin, and Cato ring a bell?

Well he stated in the begining of the season that he had a team that can win even if Yao or Tmac got injured similar to what hapened in the year before, so should we thank him for a job he is paid to do?

so what was that story about chuck getting a note in his locker before game 2? his best game.

demotivating my ass. im tired of the played out excuse of motivation. If you dont want to win as a player, for yourself alone, then you are screwed.
great players are self motivated...i just think its the coaches job to direct that motivation, i.e. inform how they can get the end goal of winning.

this Ra-Ra, win one for the gipper, junk is played out.

Yea, so he should just tell the team that they would just suck without one of their stars? Smart one pal, nice way of building the team's confidence. What he did was what a coach is SUPPOSE to do. You use your head.

Would you really care if JVG was likable or not if he had won a championship? Would you really care if Rudy T was likable or not if he won a championship? Basketball is entertainment but at the end of the day it is about WINNING.

no need to make things up. jvg didnt want bonzi to be likable, he wanted bonzi to be ready to play and not quit.

what does JVG has to do with building a teams confidence, the guy chews on unliked players in the media, he has double standards for different players, and don't forget that he always bought in players and never developed them, which means that he is only interested in players that come confident and not the ones that need to be worked on.

Yao has things that Duncan doesn't...Yao has more years left, so 'almost'

Span has few more years and he'll be close to parker, maybe not on the same level, but almost there

I agree but you can not take it our of the formula, otherwise you can say that Barry Bonds, TO, are at the same level as MJ. Being likeable is important especially when it provides you exposure and that what a business owner should be concerned about.

What makes u SO sure that VSpan is even close to Parker? Granted he hasn't gotten a lot of time, but with the limited time he has gotten so far he isn't even close. He hasn't proven ANYTHING here in the NBA. We can all rave about his performance in the World Championships and what not, but others players have done equally as well and have not been able to perform as well in the NBA. Sarunas Jasikevicius ring a bell? He totally destroyed the NBA players in the Olympics and look where he is now.

I can't believe how much emphasis is put on the coach in the NBA.

Good coaches are the ones who have good rosters period.

Can anyone name me one coach who can-

Make Yao quicker, give him sure hands, and make him into a leaper?
Make TMac 4 years younger and give him a real nasty streak?
Turn Chucky Hayes into Elvin Hayes
Turn Rafer Alston into a 6'-4" 210 lb sharp shooting ball distributor?
Turn J. Howard into a rebounding machine and an off the bench scorer 16 ppg
Turn Battier into an athletic run the floor three who can lock down the other teams best scorer?
Add 3 inches to Luther Head and give him handles?
Give Kirk Snyder a dead eye 18-20 ft jumper?
Add 5 inches to John Lucas?
Get Deke to return 10 years younger?
    Actually make VSpan TMac-jr.?

This team has so many roster issues before we can compete with the top three west teams....

I am getting to the point of wondering if we even need a coach. Why don't we let Bill Worrell and Gene Peterson take over....

Van Gundy took them about as far as this roster was going. With a step up game from Yao and Tracy in game 7 we would have moved on. Neither stepped up enough and we had no answer for hot Jazz shooting and twice the bench we had.

Their bench alone sank the series.

The only person who could have guarded boozer was TMac and that would have shut down his offense with all the energy he would have expended fouling boozer on the drives.

Battier couldn't have handled Boozer, no only Yao had the strength and size to slow Boozer down, but he lacked the quickness....

    I like Grumpy.

I will like the next coach also.

But this roster needs help, I want a championship. Not a first round series win.

there sure are alot of "almosts" people are talking about. Kinda like how they "almost" beat the jazz.

Yes, yao can do things duncan...like shoot FTs at a high %. yipee!
Too bad duncan is superior in every other aspect of the game. Its not close, i wish it was but its not at this point.

talking about how good v-mac will be, not to mention comparing him to parker, is premature at its best. Its like talking about how good maloney was going to be his rookie year...we just dont know.

but again, thats a lot of 'almosts' and a lot of assumptions about how good players actually are and how good they actually will be
