The Chronicle reported early that the Rockets had interest in Looney and McGee when they thought they could've traded Capela, which make sense since they would've lost their starting center to add a wing, now that they're not moving a center to get a wing it probably makes more sense to sign a wing with the MLE instead of a center.
I did a quick add of their roster. I came to 136.2 million with Steph Klay Draymond Russell Looney Mckinnie Damien Jones Jacob Evans I didnt count anything regarding to iggy and livingston because one is gone and the other is probably retiring They need 6 more players and have no money to do it. I dont understand how this signing was possible
Something isn’t adding up; they shouldn’t have enough for this deal. Guessing Russell or Green is heading out...probably Russell to either the Clips or Lakers.
Once the roster is finalized, Golden State will project to have $138.5M in salary, $430K below the tax apron. The salary factors in the new contract of Kevon Looney, second round picks- Eric Paschall and Alen Smailagic, along with three minimum free agent contracts. Golden State is prohibited from exceeding the $138.92M hard cap. - Bobby Marks Stephen Curry Draymond Green Klay Thompson D'Angelo Russell Kevon Looney Alfonzo McKinnie Damian Jones Jacob Evans Eric Paschall Jordan Poole Alen Smailagic MIN MIN MIN
I used avg value to calculate cap hit of klay and russell. Maybe theres escalates and is less year 1. To squeeze in some vet minimums. I still dont understand. They did this deal to get a max player in town before they have to pay draymond. So hard cap one year which is a regroup year for them then full head of steam into luxury tax hell with draymond.
Espn says that after all the Warriors moves, they will be 430 thousand under the Hard Cap. Warriors know how to squeeze a dollar. Now they can trade Russell and make more moves.
They were able to squeeze everyone in, but they basically have no depth with Klay on the sidelines all year. They can add two-way players since apparently those don’t count against the hard cap.
