The fight I'd like to see is Amir Kahn vs Marquez. This would be a battle similar to what Manny and Marquez had back in the day. Right now today, Manny can't rise to that occasion any more.
That belt isn't coming to him on a silver platter! If JMM wanted it, he had to GO GET IT. He didn't. Obviously 2 judges felt that way and all of hbo's staff and letterman. With the way JMM fights, the only way he would've won this match is if he knocked pac out. He clearly was not the aggressor here. The cut on Pac eyebrow was from a headbutt so that doesn't even count. BTW, I thought JMM at 38 fought very well, even better than their last 2 meetings. He just came up short again...and again.. and the decision was correct and fair. So what happens if Pac wins JMM PAC 4? will their be a 5..6...7..? I guess it'll stop once/if JMM beats PAC lol
Thank you! You've said it all. Folks acting like you're gonna beat the champ on a decision especially if there's not much of a difference through 12 rounds. Crazy folks around.
Didn't see the fight, but I doubt they were "slobbering" over Manny, but rather they were probably looking out for themselves and the sport. Manny seems to have brought back interest in boxing, he's the star, if he goes who's left (other than that other one guy who doesn't want to fight)? That's why regardless how close the fight was going to be Manny would have the advantage. IMO.
Dude I don't even know how you can bring up logic when in post #210, Reeko basically shredded your argument. He didn't bring up ridiculous conjecture like "Everybody knew that he was losing" or " Becase they want one more shot at Mayweather/Pac". He actually brought up actual relevant points.
Pacqiao landed more punches and didn't get knocked down. Of course he got hit by Marquez. Marquez is a counter puncher! You can't go in against a quality counter puncher without getting hit. If you poke around at a bee hive, you're going to get stung a few trips in. As others have said, the scorecards are based on punch connections and power punches. Not quality of punch. Pacqiao landed more. Marquez' swollen face is a minor result if that. It was a close match that needed to turn to the scorecard for a decision. I don't see why some people here think its far fetched that pacqiao won this fight. PS - that Cotto/Margarrito interview was awesome. I am now more interested in the fight.
I don't know why I'm still awake but I do think that interview was very genuine and awesome. I speak Spanish and they were very heated towards each other. I left wanting to see the fight.
I really believe Manny needs to improve his skills again. Unless he comes up with better ways of convincingly piercing a counterpuncher's style and defense then a fight against Mayweather will surely be his demise.
Actually, scorecards are based on the following... Clean and effective punches Ring Generalship Effective agressiveness Marquez landed the cleaner punches. Marquez dictated the fight about 75% of the time. He made Manny fight his fight. Manny is usually very effective with his aggression, but in this fight, almost everytime he tried to be aggresive, he missed and tasted a counter-combo from Marquez. As far as punchstats are concerned, anyone pointing to that as an indication of the victor, has no general boxing knowledge. Boxing is scored on a ten point must system, which largely makes punch stats irrelevant. Marquez won this fight, plain and simple.
What a load of bull. Marquez schooled Pacquiao in all but 3 rounds. It was wasn't even close. 3rd time he gets robbed.
As telling as Marquez punches were, there weren't enough. Pacquiao also landed a lot of clean punches - a lot more, in fact. Manny had ring control to me. Manny was actually a pretty good counter-puncher himself in this match; I was surprised. Normally, the idea that punchstats are irrelevant are brought up when the decision is against whom the punchstats favor. Both the judges and the stats are in favor of Manny. Quite frankly, I'm surprised people are saying Marquez won. It was close but Pacquiao won, clearly. If you watch the replays, Pacquiao won. He threw and landed more punches and won more rounds. In fact, among those two's fights, this is the one I think Pacquiao legitimately won. I think people have just been swayed by the idea that Marquez won the last two fights - which, to be honest, I thought he did. Not to mention, half the crowd was Mexican.
