Because it's a Guard Driven league See Warriors Steph Curry 6'3" Gary Payton III 6'3" Jordan Poole 6'4" Klay Thompson 6'6" (considered a guard) Combo Guards are being asked to play point SF's move to PF PF's move to C Moses Moody 6'6" (guard) Kuminga 6'8" coming up the pike to join 6'7" Wiggins and 6'6" Draymond Green See Celtics Pritchard 6'2" Marcus Smart 6'4" Jaylen Brown 6'6" (guard) Derrick White 6'4" Grant Williams (6'6" listed as PF / C on some sites) Jayson Tatum 6'8" Robert Williams 6'8" _____________________ Get use to guards running this league.....some if not most here are suggesting we draft a guard next season if we miss out on Wembanyama. 6'2" Scoot Henderson 6'4" Cason Wallace 6'6" Anthony Black (180 lbs) 6'5" Nick Smith (PG) Underscore "More Guards!!!!!!!!!" I'd rather get the combo guard Ivey now then one of those next season. Get the rim protecting - rebounding Big at #17 and / or next seasons draft. It falls more in line with what the Celtics and Warriors.....most of the league is favoring.
I think the same. Jabari has been the clear cut best player coming out. He reminds me of Duncan vibes (new version) I think Green is close with both Paolo and Ivey. I’m fine with either one. I don’t really care at this point, we are getting a top talent if we stay at 3.
Celtics are good because of their defense, ability to switch everything and their players know their roles not because they have a guard heavy rotation. Also, they might as well have at least three 7 footers. Here’s the wingspans for some of their guys Jayson Tatum 6’11 Al Horford 7’1 Robert Williams 7’6 Even their guards have crazy wingspans Marcus Smart 6’9 Jaylen Brown 7’0 Grant Williams just shy of 6’10 which is really good for his height but he plays way bigger than he is. A la PJ Tucker. I’ve got no problem with talented guards but it’s gotta make sense, they gotta be able to serve a purpose and fit what you’re trying to accomplish. You can’t just collect a bunch of talented guards with a mindset like “More Guards!!!!!!!” and expect to be like the Warriors. You’ll end up lookin more like the Magic.
Longwinded post about guards when the most impactful players in the game over the past decade are all forwards .... Giannis Lebron KD Jayson Tatum Jimmy Buckets
This happens every year when someone goes to the finals, last year was find the next Giannis now this year is get guards
I suggest watching some videos that include his lowlights. But maybe don't eat immediately before. Jokes aside...his highlights look great because it's just him knocking down a ton of tough shots. But the problem is that he's always taking tough shots because he struggles to create separation or get past defenders. And this is at the college level where he's got the size advantage on just about everyone. But, all that said...he's awesome. If the Magic or Thunder are reading this, they should definitely take him. No question. Please.
That's why I like Ivey.....for switch everything plus his wingspan. I have confidence that Ivey can hold his own in switch everything. Banchero and Sengun go against......"Good Defense""despite their Wingspans because they lack lateral quickness.....thus the need for what I'm proposing in drafting Mark Williams (7' 6.5" wingspan) or Tari Eason (7' 2" wingspan) or EJ Liddell (6' 11.75" wingspan). Good defenders to go along with Garuba, with....let's all say it class...long wingspans! Add video of split screen Ja Morant and Ivey running the same plays and looking much alike, here. You can read about Ivey and his 6' 9" wingspan here (under Defensive Intensity) https://www.nba.com/magic/news/2022-nba-draft-jaden-ivey-strengths-and-weaknesses-20220506
Finding the next Giannis doesn't hurt......Brook Lopez is what failed them this year. Previous season Brook Lopez hung around the 3-pt line and when he shot 24% from 3 in the NBA Finals...he would dive to the rim and deliver with authority. Teams were more prepared for that this season. Shot 8% from 3 vs Boston when they got bounced this year. NBA is morphing right before our eyes.....guys like Brook Lopez and Theis are getting weeded out from one year to the next if you lack the mobility.
Both are adequate enough laterally if they’re engaged and playing smart positioning. Everyone you listed is getting cooked on the perimeter, some more, some less. Edit* Eason will have the best ability on perimeter
For guards? Sure. For a C and a PF? They are plenty quick, especially Banchero. I get it though, if all you look at are athleticism and measurables and you ignore things like basketball skill, while dreaming of a 5 SG lineup, you might come to the conclusion that potential future all stars like Sengun and Banchero are no good. Unfortunately I just don't see those kinds of takes as being legitimate enough to really put forth any effort arguing against. Those kinds of takes are absurd on their face.
And then the next season there will be Kel'el Ware, Dillion Mitchell, Cameron Whitmore, James Nnaji, Dereck Lively.....if not Wembanyama. I never said the rebuild was complete after drafting Ivey....just another championship piece if and when Porter leaves us. Sengun-Banchero theme
You are only looking at the offensive side. He can get burned and recover at the college level......NBA will be different. Toast comes to mind as players get by him and Sengun is forced to cover a corner 3-pt shooter. And vice-versa. They will be giving up more points than they nab us.
It's far better to select and retain Paolo or Ivey at 3 than trading down for any other player or any veterans. I feel that the 4 top prospects are ready for the draft. That's the bottom line for me. I'm starting to feel more comfortable where we are in the draft. No to Kyrie etc. If Garuba, Tate and the 17th can get us Mark Williams at 13, then seal the deal. Retain Bruno Fernando on a 3 Yr 21 M contract, if nothing else comes up at the 5 spot. A tall defensive wing at 17, can reduce the need to switch Banchero or Sengun too. @ApacheWarrior
I agree. Some here are being intellectual dishonest by giving the perception that drafting Ivey is the end with no more picks to complete the rebuild; while drafting Banchero plus #17 and future picks allow the Rockets to be a well rounded team. With Ivey it's finite, done, project complete.....can't add on to the house. with Banchero it's middle of this great rebuild, wait until you see the pool, game room, and movie/entertainment center we will add after drafting Banchero. Just saying our backcourt would be set with Ivey-Green-Porter-Christopher-Mathews even if Porter leaves us as restricted free agent going into 23/24 season. And his heir apparent would be on the roster with one season under his belt, in Ivey. Platoon between Ivey-Green-Christopher at PG/SG from that point on works for me. Throw in Mathews as well. Nix, Queen, Eric Gordon are expendable after drafting Ivey, imo. ---------------------------- Any one of Mark Williams, Eason, EJ Liddell, Sochan at #17 works for me. But I have no qualms of packaging #17, Tate, Nwaba, Eric Gordon, Wood to take Mark Williams sooner. Saves me the need to draft Kel'el Ware or Dereck Lively next off season as we have Sengun-Garuba-Mark Williams and Bruno Fernando if we get in a pinch. I feel Mark Williams and or Garuba would get playoff minutes but as we saw big guys kinda got stymied in this year's playoffs. Only Kleber averaged 25 minutes of the final 4 teams with players 6'10" or over. They need to be mobile like Giannis or Mark Williams, imo to reach the finals. I know many will disagree with me.
Here comes my mad graphic skills put to use, Lol. I would set up this vs Rockets all day: ................................................rim..................(Sengun).................. &..................X...........................O.......................X....................& ......................X.........................................X (Banchero) .......&.......................................................&* (ball) ..................................X ..................................& ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a switch everything defense a team like the Grizz could have Ja Morant iso up top vs Banchero (or Sengun) with JJJ in the corner. Pick your poison, will the second tier of defense protect the rim or pop out to the corner 3. Teams could set that up with any good 3-pt shooter in the corner with Banchero or Sengun being the nearest defender to close out. It's pitch and catch all day. No, Sengun-Banchero won't work......defensively. They could do the handoff vs Sengun/Banchero strong side of court to tie them up as well. Lack of lateral speed will be their Achilles Heel (excuse the pun). You have to play a zone defense and teams are getting 5 guys that can hit 3's on the court at the same time. You can hide one guy defensive deficiency of lack of lateral speed; but you can't hide two guys lacking lateral quickness as the new NBA moves forward. Sorry, I don't makes the rules......just report them.
