Incorrect on the name. The restaurant is Caliente Cab Co, and yes, it sucks, as does ALL Mexican food in the City, besides Mama Mexico in Midtown. Some restaurants to consider (that I go to): Corner Bistro (cheap, awesome burgers in a bar setting) - West Village Wild Ginger (great Thai) - Christopher St. area 2nd Ave. Deli (the best) - 10th st. at 2nd Ave. Da Silvano (Italian cuisine and celebrity hangout... be prepared to wait) - West Village Volare (awesome little Italian place, although somewhat expensive) - West Village Olive Garden (23rd and 6th Ave., right near my apartment) - just kidding Via Emilia (cash-only Italian spot) - Park Ave. and 20th St. John's of Bleecker St. (pizza spot with a freaking line) - West Village Arturo's Pizza (best plain cheese pizza in the City) - West Village BTW, Carnegie Deli was closed down recently for health violations, but I think it's back now. Meh. Overrated, anyway. I'll try to rack my brain for more restaurant options. As for things to do, I'd say go to a museum. I just went to MoMA last week, and besides seeing Starry Night (Van Gogh) and The Persistence of Memory (Dali), I thought the rest of the "new" museum sucked. But hey, maybe you'll like it. Definitely hit the Met. Maybe the Guggenheim. Regarding the NFL Draft, there's a reason why no one in the office goes to it: It just sucks. Besides, prolonged exposure to Mel Kiper may result in permanent psychosis. No thanks.
Brother Jimmys has pretty good ribs and southern cooking(discount on Wednesdays when you show a southern ID) there are 2 on the UES and 1 on the UWS. pizza- ninos on Avenue A and St Marks is good, also Joes on Carmine and Bleeker has been moved a few storefronts down, its still there... music- Terra Blues, B3, American Trash all have jams and such going nightly... if anyone hasnt mentioned the Museum of Natural History and Science, head to 81st and CPW and look for the planetarium. they have a great show on the cosmos and on weekends they have laser light shows to Zeppelin and Floyd and the like...
good luck with them yankees. I think New Yorkers are the most annoying group of people on earth, they think everything in New York is better.
good for you. ever actually been there? rm95, if you are innarested in seeing the Physical Grafitti building, head to St. Marks between 1st and Avenue A...
Anyone can get Deathblow, it's finding a good copy of Cry, Cry Again without the highly controversial "dance" ending that's the trick.
My only trick. If you have a pair of crutches, use them, and get in the back of the never ending line for the 1/2 price tickets on Broadway. Get in the line about 15 minutes before the booth opens. You will be standing behind a lot of people. But I guarantee you the securtiy guy will send you to the front of the line. How nice is that. The security guard will even tell people that have been waiting 5 hours that you get to go first. The look on their face is worth it. You can live like Trump in New York if you have a pair of crutches.
Looks like I, too, am going to New York City...today...for 6 weeks. I've been there multiple times before, but am nowhere near familiar with the place. Okay, besides the museums, and touristy stuff...any other suggestions like certain places to get cheap stuff (Chinatown) or bars that don't give a **** about ID. I hear going into hostels and taking bunches of discount coupons to things like Broadway plays is ingenious. Foodwise, I'll do things here and there...looking forward to any type of food any time of the day which is great since I've recently been self-diagnosed with Nocturnalitis. okay, that was amazingly lame I'll be at Carnegie Deli a few times; same with Ray's, Original Ray's, Famous Ray's, and Famous Original Ray's; Gray's Papaya of course; Oyster Bar no doubt; that's all I got...
Rancho on 88th/Amsterdam has great Tex-Mex and a nice bar as well. Rosa Mexicana across from Lincoln Center is quite good too, albeit pricey. For South American, Pipa on 19th/5th is great. RocketmanTex was wondering about a good burger place......Island Burgers in Hell's Kitchen (Theatre District) is the best IMO.
Well arrived last night; got settled; walked around; got lost (still having difficulty determining between north and south, of which I eventually find out after I'm going down descending streets where I just wasted 5 minutes going in the wrong direction); somehow looked and saw I was on 2nd ave; next thought was "hmm, I wonder where the deli--oh there it is" right in front of me; went in at 10:30 and got a nice roast turkey sandwich. Now I finished class for the day and I need to go find a department store for a pillow since I failed to bring one...guess I'll go wander around Washington Square for some fun and end up somewhere. Also, those street vendors selling Foakley's...should I just buy them wherever I see them or can I get them "cheaper" in like Chinatown? thx
Awesome...what should I do for the rest of the night? Take the subway up to Grand Central, walk around to Times Square and make my wake back or what? I'm thinking Chinatown in a couple of days...anywhere I should or shouldn't eat or are all the quick little restaurants good? thx
walk over to the west village and hit up some pubs/bars.. better yet.. walk over to st. mark's (8th) and the east side.. 2nd ave and on.. and see what kind of divy bars are there. i reccommend places on ave. c between 11th and 7th-- those are usually pretty good on mondays.. more of the local crowd. chinatown --- if you like malaysian food.. off canal on baxter is a good place (Jas).. also, check out the big dim sum place on elizabeth on the south side of canal-- it has an escalator. also on the street paralell to canal on the south side, new green bo is a good cheap place ($3 dishes) that has pretty authentic shanghainese fare. if you like vietnamese fare, the best place (although nowhere near houston's standards) is on grand (north of canal) and bowery called Nam Son. if you want a cheap pillow -- just go to Kmart in Astor Place. Best ramen I've found is at Go Sushi (also on St. Marks between 3rd ave and 2nd ave) -- they also serve Japanese street fare. Oh.. and if you want a good late night hot dog, try "Eat Me" (also on St Marks between 1st and Ave. A). If you're into some Ethiopian food, Meskerem on MacDougal between 3rd and Bleecker (near Washington Sq. Park) is pretty good... but it gets pretty crowded. have fun!
Dude - quit posting on the internet. Hopefully you've gotten out. If you're looking for people to hang out with, I can give you SamFisher's work phone number. He's usually game for hitting scores about this time of the night.
