Here is an overly detalied explanation of the croma bug: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_8_2/dvd-benchmark-special-report-chroma-bug-4-2001.html Its a pretty minor problem, that many DVD players have. Most dont notice it at all but some HT guys are really annoyed by it. I have an older Toshiba player with the croma bug that i dont notice at all on my 36" sony XBR. Also i forgot to ask earlier, do you already have a DVD player? It may be decent enough that you wont have to upgrade right away or at all. It would put that NHT package more in you price range too.
Here's an opinion you don't want.. 16:9 sets distort the edges of regular broadcasts, 2:3 sets make HD programs too small. In 2007 all programming will be HD so the problem goes away. When HD becomes the standard prices will fall, dramatically. Settle for something that doesn't strain your budget for the interim or better yet just keep what you have. Save up for when you can get a killer 72" plasma for the same money that will only get you 42" now. Prices are all ready falling fast on 2:3's, even those that will convert to the small 16:9 format. (oh, dad , your no fun!)
I'm going to go ahead and assume you mean 4:3 aspect ratio. And I'd rather watch my movies on a widescreen TV now thank you very much.
Didn't know how much you had to spend at first...sorry about that. I actually have the Denon 910 and have had no problems and have not noticed the chroma bug at all, but if you don't want to take the risk, its up to you. I play in on 57" Toshiba Cinema Series and have not noticed one flaw. The sound system I suggested is pretty expensive, but those Yamahas actually get you pretty good bang for your buck. A sunfire and an ACI are going to be out of your price range though. Look into paradigm speakers...I think they have some in a low price point.
Nomar - Do you notice any glare on your TV? That is one concern I have with buying a Projection TV. I looked at a few at BestBuy yesterday and all seem to have a pretty bad glare. I don't have a ton of light coming into my living room, but there are two windows. Does anyone here use HD programming with DirecTV? I'm wondering if I will need to buy a seperate HD box. If so, what are the most popular ones?
There is glare if you are sitting off center. That's easy. Close the blinds to the windows. Switch to cable, it's better than satellite. And even if you stick with Direct, they will provide you with the equip for a charge. You don't need to buy a box.
