    brand new.
I bought my tv from these guys. I'm sure you can get an additional warranty tacked on. I didn't.
The last Toshiba I bought, I bought a 4 year warranty and nothing ever happened to it. I would buy a warranty if I bought a Vizio or a lower tier brand.

Well, tinman, you made your sell. I went with the Toshiba you recommended. To honor your input in the decision, I will watch my copy of Clutch City as soon as I get the thing hooked up.

I remember a link someone posted on here a while back of a place where you can get really cheap HDMI (and other) cables. Anyone remember what that place was?

I have cable...I'll need to get my cable box upgraded to the HD type (AT&T U-Verse). We have an X-Box 360, so that will be something that we can immediately enjoy. I will have to upgrade my DVD player eventually too because I doubt that cheap piece of **** has any HD outputs.

Since you have a 360, I'd get the HD-DVD add on instead of a new DVD player. It's really good.

Isn't it pretty much assumed at this point that HD-DVD is going to lose this new format war?

It's still a great upconvert DVD and if and when they do lose the format war, you can get tons of HD-DVD's for hella cheap. Even if they lose, it still looks good.

I have both so I'm neutral, I still think it's a good buy.

Well, I'm going to hold off on both until I know for sure which will dominate. I don't feel like having 2 players.

how old is your xbox? is it new (with hdmi) or old? if its old, then you can just use the HD Component cables, remember to switch the resolution (720p).
use that as your main dvd player. it actually is a pretty decent dvd player.

I don't know if it has HDMI outputs on it or not. We bought it about a year ago new. It was the more expensive of the two packages they offered ($400 at the time). Looking at the old box now, it mentions the HD component cables but nothing about HDMI.

you'll be fine with the component cables for your xbox. beware of some the 'upconvert' dvd players. some of them really suck. as always read the reviews before you buy.

if you do go upconvert, check out the Oppo , its got across the board great reviews

I'll stick with the XBox 360 for DVDs. We don't really watch movies all that often in that room anyway, so it will mainly be for gaming and TV once we get the upgraded HD box.
