Hey guys, turning to my long-visited Clutch forum for advice :).

Basically helping my best friend find a wedding venue in Dallas or within an hour's drive. Both of us don't really know Dallas, which is why I'm hoping to get some ideas here (family located there). Some of his expectations:

    - really small, intimate party with closest relatives only (<20 people). The wedding is more for relatives to get together and hang out.
    - no formal, traditional ceremony. Even something like an outdoor bbq, near a lake, do some fishing, t-shirt and jeans kind of deal would be ok with him. Basically open to all kinds of ideas and no need to make it suit and dress.
    - more importantly place should be beautiful with it being quiet/relatively isolated a big plus. Hopefully can be booked.

I really don't have a clue about this stuff so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If your friend really wants his marriage to last, then I would suggest not cursing it from the start by getting married in such a vile city. That place is sure to poison even the best of relationships.

Pretty much this. You're going to want to plant that seed in good soil, not the litter box.

    Dallas sucks.

    Marry elsewhere.

My sister in law got married here, its a great spot.

Dallas Arts Mueseum can do events.

If all you're looking for is a casual venue, you can just get a permit for any park.

What an odd thing to ask. Shouldn't the bride be all over this?

I got married on a riverboat on Lake Worth, but I don't think its in operation anymore.

This place is right off downtown main street in Grapevine - which is a cute old-style main street. Lake Grapevine is fairly close.

This place is also in the mid-cities (between Dallas & Fort Worth) - nice, pretty & not too big.

The Fort Worth Botanical Gardens - cheaper than Dallas (and less pretentious)

the Filter Building at White Rock Lake (in Dallas)

If you can convince them to drive to Granbury (about 1.5 hours away) there are plenty of places on the lake there. Its a really cute town with a LOT of B&B's and lake activity including a riverboat that may offer wedding cruises too.
