After the Video game thread about kung fu, I recalled playing an old game on the Apple II called Ali Baba and the forty thieves, so I went online to look for it. This was one of the first graphic RPG's and I had fond memories of it. But for the past two hours I have run into brick wall after brick wall trying to find a way to play it or even download it. Incredibly frustrating. Anyone know where I can find this?
Is this what you're looking for? http://www.retrocpu.com/apple-ii/games/a/ali_baba_and_the_forty_thieves And I think you can download an Apple II emulator.
How the hell does it take you 5 minutes to find something I couldn't find for the life of me?!? Glad I finally asked on here. Thanks buddy.
No problem. I googled: "apple II" "ali baba and the forty thieves" download Link showed up on second page.
I'm also looking for an old video game, pre-1994. It was a platformer. Your character had projectiles which you could customize on a shop at certain intervals.
I tried that and I kept getting linked to pay sites or ones where the emulator didn't work. Very frustrating.
Hmmm... fantasy setting. It was on the PC. The character was human - or humanoid - but the proportions were pretty normal compared to most platformer characters which were more caricature-like.
^By "PC," I'm saying that the hardware had a keyboard, monitor, and other PC parts, that it wasn't on a console. I don't know what OS it run on.
Commander Keen? <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/oxQi305vkt8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> If not that ... maybe you can locate it here: http://www.old-pc-games.com/
Not sure what the game is but I'd start at http://homeoftheunderdogs.net/ Best place on the web for old games. I take it Civ4 didn't work out?
I've played it a couple of times. It's ok, but it still doesn't have the charm that Civ2 did. The advisors are just printed screens, there isn't a trophy room, etc. The biggest thing I miss is that the game doesn't go to other lands to show what they are doing. I'm sure they did that to make it easier to play with people online, but I don't play games like that. If I'm missing something let me know.
Anyone have a clue on how to get a DOS-based game that worked on Windows 95 to work on XP? I'm running XP via Parallels on a Mac, opening up the install .exe through DOS, but it just freezes at that point. I seem to recall similar problems getting the game to install on post-Win95 operating systems.
DOS Box http://www.dosbox.com/ Takes some tweaking, but if you can get it working, it's pretty awesome.
Who has Gemstone Warriors I am looking for some good computer/web based games any good football games on the Web? A place to play RISK online for free Rocket River
I remembered. It was Gods by The Bitmap Brothers (http://www.bitmap-brothers.co.uk/our-games/past/gods.htm). <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uuBVZjazUwg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think you're talking about 'Fog of War'...pretty much universal in strategy games these days. There's no easy way to remove it from what I've found (although I've never really looked before).
If Civ4 doesn't scratch your wargame itch, you might want to try out Heroes of Might and Magic 3. It also came out in 1999, so it has that old-school PC game vibe. My favorite game of all time, and I know that there are tons of people who feel the same way. I've gushed about it several times on this forum. Google and read about it. It has Fog of War, but there's a simple cheat code you can input to clear it on game start.
