true. really buying a new car is down right dumb unless you have that much extra cash to throw away. I actually regret buying my car new a few years ago, but i got caught up in the "buying my first new car" craze after college. I wish i could go back and just get a $5K used car and kept my other $15K in my pocket...hurts thinking about it right now . At the time i thought it was cool to write a check for that much amazing how much your opinion can change after jjust a couple of years
Take a look at the new Accord. It's actually bigger than the Camry... rated as a full size car. The 2.4L DOHC MPFI 16-valve i-VTEC I4 engine gets excellent gas mileage (21/31). Just a quick search found this deal... Year: 2008 Make: Honda Model: Accord Sedan Style: 4dr I4 Auto EX-L w/Nav MSRP: $28,060.00 http://www.firsttexashonda.com/site/new_car_showcase?state=features&styleKey=w2008k24m7t4 That's with leather, moonroof, navigation, 8-way power heated driver's seat, daytime running lights, 17" wheels... etc., and I would think you could get it for less than MSRP. I'd get the 6, myself. Also looking at Lexus and Acura. What I like about the Accord V6 is that it has what my Honda van's got. If you are cruising or going downhill, it turns off 2 or 3 of the cylinders. That's why the 6 gets close to what the 4 gets, mileage wise (19/29... not bad), and it runs on regular gas, a big plus.
Let me explain: 1) the nearest bus stop to my work is a mile away 2) I have one artificial hip (getting the second one next week) 3) I've got arthritis in every other joint in my body sure I could take a bus to work but not only would it be a 2 hour bus ride there (that the buses don't run early enough to get me to work on time anyway), but it would also take me a considerable amount of time and pain to walk to and from the bus on top of the actual transit time. So, I need a car. It's the different aspects of the car I'm considering - most importantly, the ease of which I can get in and out of it - the ease in which I can load my groceries, my laundry, big things, etc.
I agree. It is almost impossible to screw these things up. Miss oil changes, miss maintenance, abuse the hell out of them (not saying you should!) and they will run, and run well, for 100,000 miles-plus. MSRP for a 4 door LX with the 4 cylinder under the hood is $21,160, with auto, AC, and lots of other goodies (never pay MSRP and shop on the internet for the best deals). The '08's will be Honda's Accord for the next 5 years. I would strongly consider one, if you think you can afford it. I have some hardware in my lower back from a chump running a red light, with chronic pain, and it's one of the cars I'm looking at. Hey! I had no idea you had these health issues, meggoleggo. All the best and hope the surgery goes well!
Thanks, that's what I was leaning towards. I drive a '98 toyota corolla now, but not for long, since I too unrelentingly drive my cars into the ground. So getting the civic si wouldn't be much different, plus it's sporty - but it only comes in manual (6 speed tranny) - which isn't as easy to drive, especially post surgery. I like the accords, and the majority of the people in my life have one, so I'm just as used to them as well. I'm not too crazy about the new body style though. So I probably will end up getting an accord, I just like looking at the civics.
I strongly recommend using CarsDirect.com to find the very best deal on a new car. Only go to the dealership to look at the cars and test-drive. Don't do any actual shopping or pricing at the dealership. Do it all through CarsDirect.com/email.
I'm anxiously waiting for the 2009 TSX. There's going to be a new design along with a bump in performance. http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=712986
That really sounds great! Too bad I can't wait that long to get a car. I bet it is larger, the only thing that's kept us from seriously considering one before now for commuting back and forth from Downtown Austin to Oak Hill. Civic on steroids! (I know, that reads like a slam, but it's not intended as one)
Fatty, a good friend of mine "back in the day" had one of those and that brings back some memories. (I'll spare you! ) No, we have a '98 Camry that's been in 2 hail storms, has well over 120K on it, but runs like a champ. My 16 year old son is going to get it in a few months. He'd be driving it now if he were like you or I were when we could get behind the wheel. As long as he isn't in a hurry, we're counting the money saved in insurance and far more saved in having to worry about him driving. But when he gets around to it, the Camry will be his and we'll be driving a new sedan. We can afford one now, easily, but we're being cheap.
I've got a '98 Corolla that's got well over 150K on it. And I'm considering giving it to my younger sis (she's 19 and in desperate need of a car, but has next to no income). But I can't afford (or don't want) much more than a Honda or Toyota (20 - 25K).
Actually, a girl we knew in college had one, complete with a sink, table, etc. But man, was that thing a b**** to drive.
08 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL This car is a dream man....you will love it..... Navigation XM Leather Sun Roof 2.5 L 4 Cylinder Engine rougly gets 35-36 MPG I got the car for 31,500......traded my Mercedes C320 in for a nice down payment....
Fatty, my friend rolled his navigating Allen Parkway late one night. He wasn't injured, but that was the end of the bus. No doubt about it... top heavy, hell to drive, and no power. Still, they had a certain charm. His was so bondoed and primed that it really looked freaky. You were just asking to get pulled over in one. They screamed, "HIPPIE IN HERE!!!"
Honestly, you can't go wrong with either one, although I tend to favor Hondas. I've had several and they simply run and run. If you want to save money and don't care if you have the latest model, get one a year old. It really helps the budget and if they are "certified," you can probably get a good loan and decent payments. Good luck!
i love honda's, owned over 5 of them and im still under 30. i would seriously consider the toyota camry over the new ugly accords. everyone can tell you what they think is best, but no one knows better than yourself. go test drive both the accord and camry and decide which one is for you (the camry).
