A Chromebook is what you want. I can do pretty much anything on my Chromebook that I can on my desktop. As long as you have an internet connection, you are good. I rarely, if ever, feel like I can't accomplish something. Worst case, I use Chrome Remote Desktop and remote into my desktop if I need something my Chromebook can't do. The only thing I can't do on it, is play games like Battlefield, but that's what my desktop is for. My only advice is make sure that the Chromebook you choose has enough power so that things don't feel sluggish. I have a Pixel, so I'm spoiled, but I did have the Samsung one before it got jacked. I really liked it.
Im gonna go against the grain and recommend something I just picked up the other day. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nextbook-...2-In-1-Detachable-Windows-8.1-Tablet/39092206 Windows 8.1 Office 365 for a year Detachable full size keyboard It seems like it would be underpowered (1G DDR3 ram, but quad core)for most of yall, but for your mother it will be perfect. Easy to setup, easy to use once you get used to the Windows 8 interface. and best thing, 194 with tax.
