I bought that Emerson 5 years or more ago when I was just getting out on my own. I had to go cheap basically. No offense taken.

Is Vizio considered a low end brand?

Sam's and Wal-Mart carry Sharp, Samsung, and Philips...three brands that I'm considering.

I don't want to deal with Best Buy and Circuit City.

Vizio is a low end brand but its mainstream. considered a good bargain by many reviewers.

Still, for picture quality and reliability, I'd stick with Samsung or Sony.
how big a tv are you looking to get?

    40"+

I want a TV for sports first and since sports is only broadcast in 720 (right?) I don't know if I should spend the money for a 1080, but I also don't want buyer's remorse.

    Vizio has a 47" 1080p for like $1300.

if you watch sports then the 1080p doesn't matter. it only matters if you watch bluray or play video games or if you get something really really big so u can see the difference in pixels.

if you can find a deal on a 720p tv with a decent brand than you should get it. pretty much nowadays, the smaller tvs are 720p cause people can't tell the difference.

I know walmart sells the lower end Sonys. I've heard good things about Vizio, but I also know those get returned alot too.

    why not go to Fry's?

also check this place out, it may be a little on the high-end but its a good place to see TVs in a proper setting.

also, if you are REALLY a sports fan, think about getting a plasma, its got better viewing angles, higher contrast, and no issues with motion blur (an issue if you get a low end lcd).

I only recommend Panasonic or Pioneer for plasma.

This is what I want a 1080p for, because I plan on using my tv for video games first then shows/sports/movies. I also read that if your tv is less than 50" then you might as well go 720p because you won't be able to tell the difference. Is that true?

My aunt is a manager at a Sam's Club and has told me Vizios do get returned most often at stores in her region. As somebody else stated though, wouldn't this be because they get sold the most often. I mean if one brand sells 100 and the other sells 10 I would expect more to be returned out of the bunch that sold 100.

Depends on the price difference on the 720p tv. if it saves you $300 then do it.

yeah, but how many people return Ferrari's compared to Hyundai's?

This is solid advice. I bought a 50" Panasonic plasma from Fry's about 3 weeks and I could not be happier. Great picture for $2,000.00. Great tv to watch the nba playoffs and baseball in hd.
