T-Mac is exactly who we thought he was. The guy is still one of the best all-around players in the league. Who would you rather have Vince Carter, Micheal Redd, Carmelo Anthony, Paul Pierce or Ray Allen? Please don't kid yourself, he may not be a Kobe or Lebron but he is still better than any other SG/SF besides those to 2 in the league. Look this guy isn't going to be the next Jordan or but he is still better than almost 95% of the guys playing his position. We have T-Mac and Yao after that there is huge drop in terms of talent. Spurs have a big 3 Celtics have a big 3 Suns have a big 3 Pistons have a big 3 Magic have a medium 3 Jazz have a medium 3 Warriors a medium 3 Rockets have big 2 and below average rest. Our 3rd best player is debatable between Bonzi, James and Battier. Until we have one these 3 step up and play consistently, we are going to struggle in the toughest division of the toughest conference in basketball.
Tmac has not lost much athleticism from the Orlando days. As a matter of fact, I would say Kobe has lost just as much of his athleticism but he is a better player now than he was in his early 20s. Stop the excuses for a guy who quits when things aren't going perfect.
His energy level and mode of play has changed for sure... Instead of being hungry and on the prowl like Baron Davis is these days, TMac is playing like the latter day Pippen, kind of moseying along, but still more effective and mobile than the knee-strung Pip. Maybe TMac's just going through a bad stretch, but he's got to pace himself if he wants to keep his career going and not be out with injuries. I think he's trying to avoid being sidelined, so he's not giving it 100% like he can on D, and he's jacking up too many 3's with 20 seconds left on the shotclock. If he's not going to attack, he needs to boil his offensive play down into something that works for a high shooting percentage.
