We have something they don't. A legacy of proving people wrong and shining when no one expects us to. This is Houston's year.
what are you talking about ? we haven't been out of the first round in over a decade. when have we proved anyone wrong ? this our year for what exactly ?
I hear you. Maybe we just have “1st round exit fatigue”. Totally understandable for anyone who has been a fan of this team for the last decade or so. Look, I'm really not trying to be a Negative Nelly here. I think we will ultimately win Game 6. But the overconfidence on this forum today is a little disturbing. How can we as Rocket fans forget what happened in 2005 and 2007? We had comfortable leads in both of those series too. And they were both against slightly inferior opponents (IMO), kind of like this year. The pressure is always on the home team in the playoffs. Not the visiting team. The Blazers responded to it last night. Let’s hope we respond to it tomorrow.
And if Houston fans think like this we'll lose game 6. Because the Blazers will get a lead and our crowd will die, realizing what has happened 2005 and 2007, in shock...and that will help Portland and not us. It's 2009 now, this team should EXPECT to win this series, the fans should expect it. Do you think the Celtics last year trembled in their boots when Lebron came into Boston game 7? They know what's up, you gotta be confident and I know the team is confident, the fans have to be also. What happened years ago is old news. We lost game 5, oh well you can't win them all especially against a good home team...but Portland's history has been just as bad in Toyota center, so why should we not feel confident about game six?
boston was nervous about game 7. you are always nervous when the best player on the floor is on the opposing team.. he then went on to drop 40+ points, and against any other team cleveland would have won, but luckily the celts had a guy who could counter and drop 40 too. we do not have a guy that can counter that, unfortunately. our best player can easily be held under 20. brandon roy has that potential. if he plays like the best player, portland will win game 6 i have no doubt. we have no "killers" on this team and the longer this series goes, the more if becomes a factor.
IMO if the Rockets lose at home on thursday, I think they lose the series. Yesterday's loss already gave the Blazers confidence. Another win, on the road no less, and the momentum will turn to Portland where they play Game 7 at home. The Rockets had their chances to close them out, they were up by 4 with about 8 minutes to go before they just went ice-cold. Artest needs to wake up and penetrate to the basket instead of jacking up bad shots from long range. Even if someone cuts him off, he could dish it to Yao for an open shot. The few times anyone's done that, it's worked. Pussbilla or whoever's guarding Yao loves to come from the weakside to contest the shot. Pass it to Yao for a dunk! The Rox did this a lot in Game 1. Overall, Artest's been a non-factor in this series and Yao needs to move quicker to get in position to avoid the fronts. Scola has played well offensively and Brooks has shot the three. The Rockets just need to stick to what works, and they'll be fine.
I love how the media from Portland is helping out their team. These are just media tactics to discourage a team if they do in fact read the paper. Portland's media tried to get Adelman fined again. Haha, stupid punks... I'm starting to hate the city of Portland as much as Utah.
Actually, Canzano is not a Blazers fan. He has talked bad about them more in is time in Portland than good (which worked because most of Portland hated the Blazers for a long time). I really expected Houston to take game five and finish this. I figured after the two close loses in your town, they would be to down to pull it out. I think going back to your house, both teams are about equal. Portland is confident after our victory, but I am sure your guys are feeling the pressure to finish this based off your unfortunate past. I figure the series is over on Thursday, no matter who wins, although I predict a Houston win. I am just happy, and suprised, that Portland put up a decent fight for a bunch of post-season rookies.
You mean if Houston fans think we will ultimately win Game 6, we'll lose Game 6? Besides, if I were at the game, I would be yelling my ASS off. But we're not at the game right now. We're posting our opinions on the bbs. If every post in this forum was "GO ROCKETS!!!!!!111 I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!" it would be pretty boring. As I said earlier, I'm not trying to be a negative nelly. But there is a difference between being confident (good) and over confident (not so good). I am confident, just not over confident.
I don't get what is being over-confident. You either think you're team will win the game or you're not sure...and if you're not sure then you're really not confident they will win the game. Also you can be yelling but if the entire crowd goes "Uh-oh...not again." It won't really matter will it. Again people have every right to be confident, the Blazers are 1 of 13 in Toyota Center, we stole a game on the road just for this moment to close out the series on our come court. We beat them twice at home to get this opportunity.
I agree. These are media tactics. As someone who writes news, I can tell you that certainly was not a standard news or feature. That was a hit on player emotions.
Yao Ming is pissed...I don't blame him. It really doesn't matter. Both teams just need to win one game. I agree, if Portland wins the next one, the momentum will be on their side. Right now? Houston still has the edge.
Amen. I think everybody on this board wants the Rockets to finally get that 1st round monkey off their back. But there are disturbing trends here. Artest has been an offensive no-show for the last two games. Brooks and Lowry aren't hitting shots they need to hit and are committing fouls/turnovers they shouldn't. Put Wafer in that camp, too. Nobody is finishing around the rim like they need to. Landry looked like he was dazed and wasn't sure what game he was in last night. No excuse for the quick succession of fouls he committed. The fronting defense hasn't been consistently overcome all season. You expect miracles for Game 6? Maybe they'll do better and maybe they won't. It's the "maybe they won't" that lends credibility to the Oregonian article. I've said it over and over. It will be the Rockets defense that either wins it or loses this series for them -- assuming they have a consistent offensive game without all the fouls and turnovers.
Exactly. The key will be for the Rockets to come out loose and not be uptight. They need to remember that they still have 2 chances to win 1 game; the Blazers don't have that luxury.
