My srgument is that you cant complain that Webber isn't a good shooter AND also say that he doesn't bang inside. You obviously are attributing the fact that his FG % is so high because he gets a lot of dunks and layups (by the way, you took that bait quicker than a somalian grouper)...so basically, you guys all say that he doesnt bang and he doesnt shoot...well guess what...he does both and he is a game away from taking his team (WITHOUT PEJA) to the WCF.

Let me guess...now its Bibby and Jackson who make them go...

I can't believe there is even a discussion about whether or not not Webber deserves a Max contract.

Webber "pusses out" delivering 30/15 in the playoffs and the explanation is "he doesn't try hard as hard Duncan or Mutombo"? I'll bet you that you can't get anyone on the Kings roster even down to Mark Price to remotely agree with that statement.

Sometimes I wonder if some Rockets fans are just PO'd because Webber didn't gush all over us in the press..."Man, Francis and Mobely...yeah, Houston...that's were I want to play!".

Chris Webber may in fact not be a better player than KG or Duncan but he easily compares to Nowitski, Brand, Rasheed, or Malone and is a damn sight more bang for the buck than Vin Baker, Gugliotta, or MoT.

In the west, Talor is the third worse pf . You can't say Taylor does anything better than Webber. You want to know why he wasn't afactor in late games? Probably because he couldn't guard anyone and he was in foul trouble. Taylor is about average, probably below that in the west and Webber is a all star.

Yeah, God forbid they would have actually signed Weber and made the playoffs this year.

How can you say a guy is overpaid when he is averaging 23 points, 11 boards in the playoffs, and he is the nucleus of a team that just won the Western Conference...????

Uh...that wasn't what I said. My argument is that Webber does have an inside game, he just doesn't use it when he faces a team with good interior defense. He goes inside against Dallas because Dallas has **** for defense. Webber won't bang inside in the next round against San Antonio or LA, which would be pussing out.

BTW, he didn't really "take his team" to that win yesterday when he spent OT and part of the 4th quarter riding the pine...

Who has Webber delivered this 30/15 against?

The d-less Mavs...

I also said he didn't try as hard as Arvydas Sabonis...

Well if you go use the search engine, you'll find that I didn't want Webber from the beginning, although I did start to change my tune a little as the summer went along, but I'm far from being upset he didn't sign with us...

leebigez,

Taylor does have a better outside shot than Webber, you claim to have all of this basketball knowledge, so you should agree with at least that statement.

Also Webber wasn't much of a factor late in this last game either now was he?

As I stated earlier, the Rockets will probably make the playoffs next year, and they won't have to do it with a good regular season player that plays well against the Mavs...

Now to the stats talk...

Webber's FG% against Utah in round 1 was a horrible 41.7% That sucks for a guy that's supposed to be good inside...

Sure he rebounds better than Taylor, but that's not my argument. I argue that he sucks against decent defensive teams, and that when faced with good interior defense, he'll settle for his horrible jumpshot. Yeah, he's playing well against the Mavs, players have been playing well against the Mavs all year, that's why their defense is 2nd to last in the entire NBA...

All I have to say to that is.... SCOREBOARD. Who won the game? Was Weber a major factor in keeping the Kings in it? Absolutely.... Does he have a good range of players around him? Absolutely. Did they step up in crunch time? Absolutely. Remember Mario Elie, Horry, Cassell in the playoffs? They stepped up too. But that didn't negate Hakeem's contribution.

Face the facts... Weber is THE STUD on THE TEAM that won the Western conference this year. His team is STILL in the playoffs, and is scoring more points than any other team.

Oh, and about this....

Karl Malone's FG% was 41% for the series as well. Who was guarding him??????

And...

Current Playoff FG%:
Shaq - 50%
Chris Weber - 48%
Tim Duncan (Mr. MVP) - 43%
Kevin Garnett 42%
Kobe - 41%

CASE CLOSED

For the people that say Webber's shot is better than Taylor's, you are wrong. BGM is right on the money - Taylor's shot is easily better than WEbber's.

This is the most ridiculous thread, out of many bad ones, that I've seen in a while.

Did getdariusrice start this thread or something?

Webber is a hell of a lot better than any big man we have now.

I would also say he's better than Francis.

For all you guys talk about Webber being scared to take the big shots, you might have a point.

But, Francis is every bit as "scared".

The idea that some people here think we were better off without one of the best PFs in the league, makes me wonder...

amen, kidrock...funny how some fans of the team with arguably the worst frontcourt in the league want nothing to do with one of the better big men in the game. a strong frontcourt is more indicative of a team's success than a strong backcourt...and being able to score easily down low is the reason the Kings are ahead of the Mavs right now in their series. that, and a bigger commitment to defense...which, by the way, is another thing the Rockets need!

All I have to say AGAIN, is he's playing the freaking Mavericks, the 2nd worst team defense in the whole league! Only one team allows more points than the Mavericks...the Golden State Warriors.

Their Defense SUCKS, you can talk all day about how great Webber's playing this round, but he's still doing it against a bad defensive team...

Like I've said BEFORE, the regular season is different from the playoffs. If you want to be the Utah Jazz and go to the playoffs every year only to get knocked each and every time, then that's cool. I want to win it all, and Chris Webber will NEVER win it all as the "stud" of a team. He will screw up some time in the playoffs, it is inevitable, just wait for him to play a good defensive team, and you'll see what I'm talking about...

That just proves that Karl Malone is as much of a loser as Chris Webber is... did you not notice Malone puss out as well when he decided to pass the ball to Rusty LaRue to decide his playoff fate in their final game?

Well Shaq, Kobe, and Duncan have to face good defensive teams. KG has no finishing moves and can't even get out of the 1st round, nor does he have the supporting cast Webber has...

I don't know how many more times I must beat this horse, but Dallas has a bad defense, and for Webber to finally play well once in his life in the playoffs doesn't mean anything to me, since everyone seems to play well against Dallas on the offensive end...

Please go read my posts talking about why I prefer Taylor over Webber again, I really don't feel like having to reply with the same explanation...

With this means a lot coming from Mr. Negativity...Webber is better than Francis in the regular season. I haven't seen Steve perform in the playoffs to determine if he's a big wuss like Webber though. I'm confident we'll find out next year...

Francis has hit quite a few big shots in the regular season, but this is not my point. The jury's still out on Steve because he hasn't played in the playoffs. That's when Webber starts to fall apart, and I'm hoping, as a Rockets fan, that that's the time when Steve shines...

Sure he might be great in the regular season, but he'll turn into a jumpshooting PF whenever he sees a center with a game...

Mo's a better jumpshooting PF, so I'd prefer him over the guy that spent a whole regular season disrespecting his team by talking about playing elsewhere.

Please go read my posts about Webber wanting to be the #1 guy...what's wrong with my reasoning?

The whole "worst frontcourt" thing is mainly due to youth and injuries more than anything. I think next year, EG/KT/Mo might turn out to be a pretty decent rotation.

The Kings defense was horrible to during the early Webber years, it only changed when they added Doug Christie and Bobby Jackson, so I'm not sure you could say Webber will suddenly bring intense defense if he came to Houston. I think EG brought more help defensively last year than Webber ever would. I realize that this isn't an EG vs Webber thing since we could have had both, but I think EG would have gone McGrady on this team if we were stuck with Webber playing in front of him...

A lack of talent also has a lot to do with the "worst frontcourt" stigma, as well. KT (for now) is the one solid frontcourt player this team has.

The deficiencies of the frontcourt are startling and disappointing:

Mo - if CWebb is soft, this guy must be gaseous. Let's be honest, this guy is good for 1 tough, physical play every other game. Rebounding, post defense have already been documented.

KT - love his heart and athleticism, but sometimes he looks like the head of the Bricklayer's Union. Can he be effective without dominating the ball, probably but you never know.

EG - 2 years away from being a solid frontcourt player, his effectiveness is a testiment to the lack of frontcourt talent league-wide. Gotta love that upside, though.

Cato, Collier - 'Nuff said, these 2 are very indicative of the lack of frontcourt talent on the Rocks. And to think, they're holding the position Dream, Moses, and Sampson once played. :( :sniffle:

Rice - would be the best frontocurt player, but wheels are BIG question mark.

TMo - 1 year away....(see EG)

Walt - good guy who should retire and go into private business, its been a great run Wizard!

Granted, a lot of teams aren't a whole lot better up front, but who cares about them anyway! :D ;)

There's a lot more wrong with the frontcourt than injuries and lack of experience.

My contribution:

a) Taylor's shot from the outside is actually better than Webber's.
b) Webber is far and away, hands down, without a doubt the better player.
c) Webber would be an asset to any team in the league.
d) Webber would have been awesome on the Rockets
e) Webber may "puss out" in the playoffs, but hasn't yet this year(regardless of the competition). If the claim is that he will in the next series, wait to see what happens first.

Its becoming painfully obvious that with every post, BGM, digs himself deeper and deeper and deeper.....he should just throw in the towel...Webber would make us better if he was our 4 instead of MO...if you dont see that, then I cant take your opinion seriously on basketball

It's becoming painfully obvious that NJRocket is a style over substance poster...

I've been saying the same basic thing in every one of my posts, so I don't see how I'm "digging" deeper...

Anyway, I'll reply to the real posts later when I have more time...

Something else in regards to Webber that I haven't seen addressed here yet is the overall passing talent of those around him. The guy plays on a team that starts 5 players that are all good to great passers. Bibby is excellent at finding the open man, Christie as well does a good job. Peja is the only one that doesn't impress me for his position, but is not a black hole and can find the open man. Vlade Divac, as much as I hate the dude, is one of, if not THE, best passing centers in the league.

The result of this? Everyone on the team getting better, more open shots. Now, I am not using this as a detraction from Webber's skills. The guy is an amazing talent at PF. But my personal observations of him in the playoffs so far is that a lot of his points come off of good passes and setups from his teammates (particularly on the break). I see maybe one or two times a game when Webber takes the ball into the paint on his own, makes a strong move to the basket and scores. Otherwise, it is putbacks, great passes from his teamates for easy-semieasy buckets, or outside jumpers.

This does not mean that Webber wouldn't improve the Rockets, but frankly we as a team start only ONE freaking player that is at the very least a good passer, and that is Francis. Cuttino has tunnel-vision. Cato is ridiculously one dimensional. Any SF we run out there probably wouldn't be worth his salt as a passer (although Wiz has his moments). KT is a good passer once he starts making his move (drives to the basket), but he wouldn't be on the floor with Webber much.

What does this mean? Webber, if he were a Rocket, would have to be creating a LOT more of his own shots in order to get his numbers. He has a great situation there in Sacremento. In Houston, he truly WOULD have to be "The Man", and I don't know how well he would handle it. He might could, but I seriously have my doubts.

I just want to clarify the following and then I'll stop responding to those who answer "yes"...

Does anyone on this entire board, planet, universe or whatever think, without bias towards your favorite team (and mine) that the Rockets are a better team with Mo Taylor than they would be with Chris Webber?

What happens if Sacremento wins the championship this year, you guys still going to call Webber soft?

He is one of the top 3 or 4 players in the league.

He has mad skills, I would LOVE to have him on the Rocks...I would bet my house that the Rocks would still be playing if Cwebb had signed here.

No, I think your problem is that you are looking at the wrong damn map.

No one is saying that the Rockets wouldn't be a better team with Webber over Taylor. What they are saying is that, in the long run, it might be best for the team to not tie up so much of the team's chances on one player that they view as being a playoff choker who can't make plays against tough defenses, and would therefore never lead us to a championship, regardless of how many playoff games he gets us in.

Raven,

They said that about Dream and Seattle for years, and that worked out ok.
