Ya, I could see Gibson leaving after next season, but I think Aldridge will have to stay. He was hurt most of last season and really has to show his stuff before teams get interested in him.

    LONGHORNS RECRUITING
UT signee says 1st round or Hook 'em

The father of University of Texas basketball signee C.J. Miles said Monday his son will be a Longhorn if he's not a first-round pick in tonight's NBA draft.

Calvin Miles said several teams have inquired about drafting his son high in the second round.

"I told them not to waste their time," the elder Miles said. "If he's not drafted in the first round, he's off to Texas."

Miles, a 6-foot-6-inch guard who averaged 23.2 points and 11.2 rebounds as a senior at Dallas Skyline, is projected as a marginal first-round pick in most mock drafts. His highest projection has him going to Denver with the 22nd pick.

    PG-Gibson
    SG-Miles
    SF-Tucker?
    PF-Aldridge
    C-Buckman
    Bench-Williams, Dowell, Winder, Abrams

I've heard that Tucker is still having problems academically and he might be done at UT for good... Let's hope he gets it all straightened out. Looks like the Horns will have a very good team this year. That's a final four team on paper.

Miles will be a good player for us. Him and Gibson will make one of the best , if not the best, backcourts in college basketball.

It'll be hard cheering for Miles when I know he's gonna end up being a Utah Jazz.

I don't really understand this move at all. Why would the Jazz give him a guarenteed contract? Why not just let him goto Texas and develop for free? It's not like Miles is going to contribute for them this year anyways. The loss of Raja Bell might have scared them into making this move. Still strange giving guarenteed money to a high schooler when you didnt need to.

^ That really sucks, really dissappointed that he got drafted to the Jazz of all places. I don't really see why the Jazz are so interested in getting him in uniform, they really should allow him to atleast play 1 season in Austin, it will vastly improve him game in such a short time.

If a player goes back to school, I think they lose their rights to him.

He hasn't hired an agent. That means Jazz will hold his rights at least 1 year after he graduates/ drops out from college.

what i've come to learn about cj miles (or at least his father) is that he never intended on coming to UT. he just wants the little money he can get out of being a 2nd round pick. in my opinion i think he made the dumbest decision of his life by entering the draft without a very SOLID guarantee as a 1st round pick. these kids just don't know how to add. about 50 kids got told they were guaranteed as a 1st round picks. there are only 30 slots. i know the public education system isn't the greatest but they have to know that these teams are lying to at least 20 of them. but they'll never get it apparently. good luck to cj because he'll need it. jerry sloan just doesn't let anyone make his team, you have to earn it. and even if he does get a 2 year deal it's less than 1/2 the money of a 1st rounder. he should have just said no thanks to the draft for a year or two and went to texas and become a top 20 pick.

from a longhorn fan viewpoint, i wish he would have come to UT. but if i was in his position and got offered the 400,000 a year guarantee, then you gotta go. i mean, he can play his way up also, but he'll be getting paid. if he's good enough, in 2 years he'll get a new deal worth alot of money. if he was in good in college, in 2 years he'd get a rookie contract. either way, he gets paid fine.

if he came to UT first there's no guarantee he'll ever make ANY money, there have been so many players that are all-americans or whatever and don't pan out at ALL. i think this is a fiscally wise decision, as much as it sucks to lose him at ut.

His game will improve much faster playing in the NBA. On the job training every day is better than 30 college games against inferior competition.

A couple of things listening to 1300 am here in Austin today.

    1) Sounds like the Miles family isn't hurting for money, but at the same time, were wanting to do anything and everything to get into the NBA. So, looks like UT just got used in the deal, which sucks.

    2) However, an interesting point or two were made on the show. First of all, if Miles came to Texas, he would likely have been the 4th or 5th offensive option this year (at best) behind Gibson, Buckman, Tucker and Aldridge. So he probably wouldn't have been putting up great numbers immediately anyway, although his presence at a 2 would help since all of ours at UT graduated. What REALLY would have sucked would be a scenario where he gets drafted, comes to UT, and LEAVES in the middle of the season if Utah decided they did need him during the year, say to combat a rash of injuries or something to their guards. I don't know how likely that would be, but it would certainly be possible, and it'd really leave UT high and dry.

    3) According to radio reports, Tucker is doing much better academically. Of course, radio reports and academics 'round here should never mix after the Penders scandal! :) Regardless, that would be great news. Tucker is the scoring threat, attitude, and "glue" this team needs to do some damage come tourney time.

I don't think this would have been the case. Miles is probably much more offense savvy then Buckman and Aldridge. He's got a really good 3-pt shot which is probably even better from college 3pt.

But I do think Barnes' quick rotation definitely would have Miles not put up big numbers as expected.

Is that possible? I guess it is. That would really suck but I'm sure an NBA team wouldn't do it, but then again, it is the Jazz.

He better come back full force next season, he really screwed us big time. Aldridge's injury was very unfortunate, but for Tucker to be ineligible when athletes only need like a 2.0gpa is just ridiculous.

I really like how Buckman has progressed offensively. I'm really looking for him to be our go-to guy this year, at least in the low post and even high post some. I don't really know what Aldridge will give us- i wasn't too impressed with his offensive game last year, but he was young and developing, so I"ll be patient with that.

You are right that Miles would fit a need we have in the perimeter game. With Syd and Kenny Taylor moving on, that is a lot of our 3 pt range out the door. I hope Paulino can make up some of that.

I never thought of it either, but according to the radio show, it would be a possibility that a player get drafted, go back to school, and since the NBA squad has his rights, they could sign him to a deal at any time....It sounded odd, but it doesn't sound any different than a kid dropping out of college for some reason or another to do something else. Obviously his eligibility would be gone, but if he's going up to "the show," he likely wouldn't care. It doesn't matter now, but it would seem to be an interesting scenario.

Regardless, this should still be a successful year for the 'Horns. Just getting Tucker and Aldridge back should be huge for the talent level on this team!

He's one of the best PGs in the nation, I believe he is #5 in PGs. Transfered to Hightower from New Orleans I believe.

durant officially signed today for the horns...i've been a little worried the past week or so because he had been visiting other schools (maryland and unc, i believe), after verbally committing but he is officially signed now, along with four others. Harrison Smith (G) from Jones HS in Houston, Dexter Pittman (C) from Rosenberg Terry, Justin Maso (G) from Amarillo Palo Duro, and Matt Hill (F) from Lincoln, NE.
