Longhorns Fans: If UT goes undefeated and doesn't get a chance to play for the.......

Discussion in 'BBS Hangout' started by JBIIRockets, Nov 2, 2005.

How would you feel if UT was the odd team out?

  1. I can handle it. An undefeated season is good enough for me

    10.0%
  2. I'd be devastated. Followed Texas all year only to be backstabbed because there is no playoff

    62.2%
  3. I don't care about the Horns, so their final standing means little to me.

    27.8%

Even if UT gets overlooked for the Rose Bowl, does a win at the Fiesta Bowl (undefeated season) offer the chance for a split of the National Title between them and the winner of the Rose Bowl?

In any other season maybe but not this year.

If VaTech wins, they wouldve broken one of the longest winning streaks in recent history.

If USC wins, why should they have to split anything considering theyve been the consensus #1 for 2 years.

Imagine the NBA putting the two conference winners in a championship game and no playoffs. Or the NFL, or baseball doing the same.

It really is a joke. An 8, or even a 4 team playoff would pretty much take care of the problem. That would only add 1 or 2 games to the year, so it's not cutting into school too much. They can still use the BCS system for the rankings to pair playoff teams.

I'd agree that it's not much different than what happened last year. However, as someone said, the biggest knock on Auburn was that: a) they started too far down in the polls at the beginning of the year, which hurt them, and b) they played a very weak non-conference schedule, partly not their fault due to Bowling Green bailing on them at the last moment.

With Texas particularly, they started the season #2, and they did play one prime non-conference team. So, both of the arguments that hurt Auburn last year wouldn't seem to come into play on this season for Texas. Who knows, though. Still lots of football left to play. However, I must be honest and say I'd be devastated if Texas goes undefeated but doesn't get a portion of the title at all. But if USC plays Va TECH or someone else and wins in the Rose Bowl, I don't see anyone splitting the title.....Sad, to me, but true.

Actually, the guy (forgot his name) who runs the BCS basically said that if both UT and VTech run the table, it would be almost impossible for the Hokies to jump the Horns.

He was basically saying that if USC, UT, and VTech finish undefeated, it'll be Texas and USC battling it out.

AFAIK this assumes that UT stays ahead of VT in the human polls.

If VaTech leapfrogs over UT in the BCS, I will personally call the White House to let them know that Al Qaeda has taken over the state of Virginia and bombing should commence immediately!

Absolutely they were. Just because they got screwed last year wouldn't make UT getting screwed any better. They would both be screwed by some ****ed up system of determining a champion.

If playoffs are good enough for I-AA, they're good enough for I-A.

I still say this conversation is irrelevant. VaTech will lose one of their remaining games.

Didn't the BCS add a 5th bowl, a plus one, for the championship in 2007? Or was it just all talk?
