If they make it to Houston for the Final 4, it's all over. Tens of thousands of Exes backing the Horns. Barnes closed the game with 2 freshmen (Joseph and Thompson), 2 sophomores (Brown and Hamilton), and 1 senior (Johnson). The combination of talent + youth is absurd!
Wonder what KU fan on here will make a "t-shirt fan" thread. "WE" WIN....finally in the Allen Fieldhouse!
Good win Longhorns!!!! And the Kansas fans had to nerve to call us over-rated in the first half.. Hook'em Horns
Damn... still in shock that the Horns won in Kansas. This game just proves they're the real deal. I think someone pointed it out earlier.. if they can finish January with wins that they'll be in the top 3. It's very much realistic at this point. I'm so happy for this team.
I guess you don't have much love in your life very often? I fully expected this to be a transition year after last year's debacle, and losing 3 players to the draft, including 2 first rounders. But this team seems to be gelling really well. I don't know if it's credit to Barnes and the staff or on Hamilton himself, but his growth and maturity has been tremendous. J'Covan is coming along well, too, and everything has already been said on Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph. I fully expect Hamilton to go to the draft (and frankly, I'm shocked he came back), but if we can bring back Team Canada to go along with Myck Kabongo, this team could be even better next year. This might be Barnes' best coaching job, after what was probably his worst job last year.
Anyone who did record the game wanna make highlight vid or just upload the game or something? Please? ill rep you!
As a longhorn fan I'm thrilled we won, but if you didn't watch the game, you didn't miss much, it was pretty ugly.
Hey, it was ugly, but there were quite a few nice shots by the Longhorns, like J'Covan's streak and Joseph's banked 3. And I loved the way we played 'D' in the 2nd half. I swear, something must've happened in the locker room during halftime, because we just blitzed them in the 2nd half. We outscored them 51-26... that's absurd...
As optimistic as I want to be about this team, I remember last year's torrid start and subsequent first round knock out. College basketball games are overrated in value IMO. Whoever is hot going into the conference tournaments and then gets rolling in the tournament (with a relatively easy draw) usually wins the title. Not saying that this Texas team isn't capable of going deep into the tournament this year but let's see in a month or so where this team is at.
Disagree. Your statement has some truth in it, but you can largely decipher what teams will or could make a run if you actually watch and analyze the games themselves, as opposed to going by the scouting report. That was the problem with Texas a season ago - so much of the hype was manufactured based on talent, as opposed to actual on-court play. The only ranked teams Texas beat last season were North Carolina (who were obviously frauds) and Michigan State, both in December and the latter in Austin. On the other hand, Texas' resume this season is rock-solid. Wins over Illinois, Michigan State, UNC (on the road), Texas A&M and Kansas (those two by double digits). The defense is absolutely lights out, and the offense can still execute against good teams and actually seems to be improving as the year goes along. Of the losses, two came on the last possession against elite Big East opponents (UConn and Pitt). 2009-10 Texas was a great team on paper, but if you actually watched and studied the on-court results, the slide wasn't as shocking as many made it seem. 2010-11 Texas is a a very good team on the floor, and they're compiling a top-notch resume to go along with it. It's a very different year. Not to mention, outright winning a Big 12 title would be a hell of an accomplishment as well.
Most offenses tend to look that way against the 'Horns. Their defense - particularly around the basket - is just superb. As far as the UT offense, I never got the feel - even in the first half - that they were out of sorts. They simply missed a lot of bunnies within three feet of the basket and didn't seem to get any calls, which can happen in the opening minutes at a place like Allen. In the second half, once Brown made those threes, the confidence really took off and the shots around the basket started to drop. kU was ugly for most of the game - just like the Ags for much of Wednesday. I see a trend.
Texas has the best wins of any team in the country this season. They have 5 wins against teams ranked in the Top 25 of the InsideRPI, the most in the nation. 4 of the 5 wins have come away from home. according to ESPN
I had only watched the first half. Even with the way KU was playing, I felt pretty good that the Horns would at least make it a game. I didn't forsee an 11 point win in Allen Fieldhouse with KU on a 69 game winning streak. I don't know how far up they'll go in the polls on Monday, but this is a top 5 team right now and should be in the running for a #1 seed if things were to end today. That said, the next 3 games will not be easy by any stretch. They've officially got the target on their backs now for the rest of the Big 12 season.
