Yup. I think this A&M game is prob the biggest game of the season for the Horns... biggest and toughest.
Yep. If they can win tomorrow, the rest of the schedule is a joke until the B12 Tourney semi-finals. They'd be heavily favored the rest of the way and have a legit shot at 16-0 in conference. There seem to be 4 legit B12 schools (KU, UT, Mizzou, A&M) and the rest are really sort of scrub teams. Amazing given that Baylor and KSU were highly ranked early on.
If they can somehow keep Thompson and Joseph another year, you might be looking at the preseason #1. Hamilton is as good as gone since he's already being mentioned as a lottery pick. If he somehow stayed, holy s*** would this be a GREAT team.
Thompson is good but he isn't big enough to be considered a very high pick at this point. Only good option he has left is to return, to work on expanding his range and hitting his FTs. Joseph will be back. Hams gone.
AP Poll just released. AP Top 25 * 1.Ohio St. (65) * 2.Kansas * 3.Texas * 4.Pittsburgh * 5.Duke * 6.Connecticut * 7.San Diego St. * 8.BYU * 9.Notre Dame * 10.Kentucky So, we beat Kansas at their house but they still own us in the polls. I guess it's due to the RPI Rankings as they're ranked #1 there.
Ohio State plays on the road at Minnesota (a team they only beat by 3 in the first meeting) later this week, and Kansas has Mizzou this weekend. My fingers are crossed.
I think Texas is in a good position right now regardless of how the final ranking shake out. Basically they control their destiny for a No. 1 seed in the Southwest - could be looking at Tulsa for the second and third rounds (first round is the 4 play in games) and then San Antonio for the Southwest Regional and then Houston for the Final 4
It's also due to the fact that they have 1 loss while we have 3. We've lost to two teams we're ranked just above. There are way too many games to rank all the teams based on who they've beat - it's just a collective overall ranking. I think #3 for a 3-loss team that has a bad loss to USC is about as good as you can expect.
For sure. Our lack of depth in the frontcourt was really exposed against SC. Their bigs, Vucevic and Stepheson (transfer from UNC), ate Thompson, Johnson, and Hill alive. Thompson's fine-tuned his game over the last 3-4 weeks, and it would be a much different story if we played them today. SC only lost to Kansas by 2 at Allen Fieldhouse, but they lost to Rider by 20 and a 6-16 (0-11) Bradley team. They don't look like a tourney team... definite blemish on our resume.
not really. teams have ****ty games, its a part of basketball. its seems like after that game they have put it in another gear
Even if TAMU did show up, I'm not sure if it's enough to beat the Longhorns. granted, Ags have a talented team this year as well. I actually envy Ags a bit, I think Reed arena is more animated and louder than Frank Erwin Center.
ESPN just showed footage of A&M students camping out last night to get seats in Reed Arena... When A&M was in Austin, I showed up at the Drum an hour and a half before tipoff with a group of 6, and sat section 79, row 3. In all honesty, Texas is pretty weak in terms of crowd noise/dedication, considering the Horns are consistently at the top of the Big 12. Also, student seating blows here -- behind the baskets at the Drum, and behind the end zones or upper deck at DKR (unless you're a senior).
Been nervous since this morning about this game.... the nervousness won't go away until that final buzzer sounds no matter how much they are up by. Great atmosphere in CS.
