ooooh please tell me this is not true if there was a time i would want to cry, is if ANYTHING messes up the rose bowl game. gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i am SO SAD. this has ruined my LIFE.
This is what I'm hearing too. I think the first incident (in Sept.) involved Michael Houston flashing a gun. He was given the option to leave the team or get kicked off. That incident and the one involving Cedric and Ramonce are completely unrelated. There was no weapon involved with Ced/RT. Then again these are just rumors, it's better to just wait for the facts to come out.
Well, innocent until proven guilty, however, no one should be above the law...Hell, its only a game...
On a possibly related note Michael Houston (along with Bobby Tatum and Jerrell Wilkerson) anounced they are transfering out of Texas for more playing time. Houston is rumored to be the one that flashed the weapon back in September
They could be accused of murder, but with a national championship on the line Mack will find a way to get them on the field.
Michael Houston is said to be the one who flashed the gun, he's no longer with the team. Griffin looks to have been in nothing more than a shouting match, and charges aren't expected to be filed. How is any of that sweeping it under the rug?
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2263160 AUSTIN, Texas -- Austin police say they are investigating two separate cases of assault and robbery in downtown Austin that involve members of the Texas athletic department. The incidents occurred Sept. 4 and Dec. 10. No charges have been filed, and names of those being investigated have not been released. According to police, the incidents were an alleged armed robbery with an automatic handgun on Sept. 4 and assault and attempted robbery on Dec. 10. Texas acknowledged the investigation Friday night, and athletic director DeLoss Dodds released the following statement: "We were surprised by the APD release of allegations concerning one or more of our student-athletes. We have followed up on the rumors that we are hearing and spoken with the two student-athletes who are alleged to be under investigation. Within the limited time we had this evening, we have gathered as much information as possible. Based upon what we know at this time we have no reason to believe that the University or the athletic department need to take any action. We will continue to monitor the matter, and we will cooperate fully with those who are conducting the investigation." Although Austin police and the University of Texas have not identified the individuals under investigation, attorney Ken Oden confirmed to ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday night that cornerback Cedric Griffin is one of the people being investigated. "I have agreed to advise Cedric Griffin although no criminal charges have been filed against him. He is the subject of an investigation -- and I stress it is an investigation," Oden told Schad. "I believe no charges will be filed against him. They're saying this is assault and robbery, and it sounds hideous, but this is a trash-talking incident on the street involving Cedric and that's it. I know this is a big game and they're focused on it. But in fairness to Cedric, this was nothing more than a verbal incident in as much as it involves Cedric." The No. 2 Longhorns are scheduled to play top-ranked Southern California in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4 for the Bowl Championship Series title. Griffin has been invited to the Senior Bowl, according to the Dallas Morning News. Kevin Buchman, an Austin police spokesman, said his office issued its statement after receiving inquiries from the media. He said police would not release more information.
I know the police said this, "According to police, the incidents were an alleged armed robbery with an automatic handgun on Sept. 4 and assault and attempted robbery on Dec. 10." Somebody get Jamail over to Austin asap - he'll get them on the field in Pasadena
This sh*t is really sickening. You need to take a step back and realize what youre doing here. What if youre completely wrong? what if it was just a glorified shouting match (like that never happens right ). So now you want to burn this 22 year old kid just cause he got in a trash talking altercation? And not only do you support that, youre HOPING it happens. You got serious issues man... I bet if it were up to you, you'd be trying to find more severe allegations to charge him for. What the f*ck is your problem? Do you enjoy wishing bad things upon people?
"Oh SHIIII someone at UT got into a fight!!! I move that Cedric Griffin be executed, Mack Brown be beheaded and televised on TV, and that The University of Texas campus be burned to ashes..." -bigtexxx
I didn't mention it being a public school, I was just giving examples of big programs that have had players in legal trouble over the last few years.
but trader was being critical of specifically state schools, and I was really criticizing his post. you're correct, any big time program has these problems. T.J. also says that 95% of all state school athletes probably wouldn't be there if they weren't athletes like all the athletes at Rice or Duke can meet the regular requirements. His post is full of holes.
T_J didn't mention USC as a state school though. The only thing I really disagree with in his post was the 95% number, that's defintely too high, but I think he's spot-on on everything else.
Well, this story pretty much lines up with Vince Young's quote: "We have guys on this team who are gangsta." Word
