Well the couple of times I've run into him, he's been pretty nice. I had to fix his computer a couple of times and he was pretty cool. The guys who came with him were a bunch of clowns that were incredibly annoying but Taylor himself was pretty nice. He just seems like one of those guys who was hanging around the wrong crowd and it really messed him up. Guy needs to gain some maturity and hopefully he'll learn something after this, although his football career just ended.
I kinda skipped through all the ranting and raving in this thread so excuse me if this has already been said but.... the story doesnt really even add up. Why would he call the cops if he knew he had 5 lbs of bud in his car? Why would he agree to a search? There is obviously more to this story.
It is indeed good to know that at least one major athletic program in our great nation has a zero tolerance program in effect for poor academics and criminal activity. I am proud that Mack Brown removed star running back Ramonce Taylor from the team to focus on his poor grades. I am equally impressed that his Brown's iron fisted ways reach beyond academics into the players’ personal lives. Members of the UT football team are expected to behave in a certain manner and Ramonce failed in this regard and is off the team. You have to look no further than scandal plagued universities such as USC and Duke to realize that student athletes are at the school first to learn - second to play sports. UT understands this -- few other major universities in our nation (or the world) can see this fact. Perhaps Taylor's biggest mistake was going to Belton -- a place that some have described as the meth capital of central Texas. It's frightening to think what may have been going on at that 'private party'.
bigtexxx is jealous of Ramonce Taylor because Ramonce is a successful businessman while bigtexxx is not.....
Taylor's grades aren't up to par, so he's dismissed from the team for spring practice to give him time to fix them? Check. Taylor gets busted with 5 pounds of pot and Mack Brown says they are not considering reinstating Taylor to the team? Check. I'm failing to see the institutional problem here. All big universities recruit bad apples, there is no denying this. If this is UT's fault, then Winston Justice brandishing what people though was a firearm as well as propositioning hookers is USC's fault. Lawrence Phillips is all Nebraska's fault. So on and so forth.
Dude, there is nothing better than seeing Major completely and utterly own someone in a logic debate. I guess bigtexx knew he was backed into a corner because he just completely stopped responding to Major. Bad student/athelete recruiting? An article proving Rice is guilty just as other schools. Okay, then the consequences for breaking the law/academic rules? Oh wait, Ramonce is already off the team, it seems. Nowhere else to go. I love it.
LOL, I can't respond to everybody. It's obvious that Major has strong ties to UT and it shamed by this episode, so he futilely tried to bring Rice into the equation to divert attention and save face. Players cheating on tests (which they got kicked off the team for....) does not equal felonies. Next.
its not just big universities, usc and miami are private schools. northwestern, a school on caliber with rice with higher standards for athletes had a point shaving scandal a few years ago. this whole notion that somehow ut is out of control is silly.
rocketman95... the problem is that while all schools have some problems, there are certain ones that have HUGE numbers of problems.. as many as 10 fb players arrested a year, etc... If a school keeps having a large number of arrests over and over again, maybe it is a problem with the types they are recruiting.. (in this case I'm not even referring to Texas, but there are other schools that repeatedly have a large number arrested over and over and over again)
rocketman95.. it isn't just UT, not at all. But it would make sense that UT is the one talked about on a board based in the state of Texas.. Believe me, most of my focus is on the SEC In particular, the other UT (Vols)
any response? or does this not fit with your reality? and sorry about that drunk post earlier...i think they call it functional alcoholism.
Of course, nobody can respond to everyone. Just a little funny that you had no problem responding to him right up until he completely invalidated any of your points in this thread. Then, suddenly you are too busy. And no, cheating on a test is not the equivalent of a felony...but Major provided evidence of a steady 30 years of documented cheating tendencies by the Rice program, and you have Ramonce Taylor with a 5 lb. bag of mar1juana that may or may not have even belonged to him. And you were the one claiming you are concerned for all of the student/athletes and not just what goes on at UT...yet you don't want to "divert attention" by bringing in another school in the discussion? Sounds like you have an axe to grind, to me.
Bigtexxx, your obsession with UT is even worse than an Aggies. Did Bevo step on your puppy and kill it when you were a kid? Something must have happened to make you so obsessed.
This is when bigtexxx starts another workout schedule and "can't" respond for a while. Look at RM95's post on RT: He was failing his classes so Mack dismissed him from Spring practices. Then he gets caught w/ weed and Mack kicks him off the team and won't even consider bringing him back, I don't see what else UT could have done in this situation.
Players would get grades up a lot faster if they are suspended for the actual season.. not just spring practice
there wouldn't be any room for other threads in the Hangout if we talked about all the cheating in the SEC.
