The OP is right. We are in a lot of trouble, and are going down south quickly. There is no help around the corner because our role players baring Parsons have limited value. Our guys will have to play as hard as they can, nothing less than a A on effort every night will do. The last thing that we need are mediocre role players like Dunleavy etc.
Who cares!!!! I don't care if he's black, white or whatever, I'm tired of seeing that SURPRISED LOOKlook on his face every time he makes a mistake!!! What other point guard drives into the lane, stops, turns around and look to past the ball......he is a D-Leaguer at best!
Garcia and Brewer are trash,Casspi is ok but should not get that much minutes We have a hole at PF,TJones is a good player but he can't shoot to save his life and DMo just looks lost This team lacks a true playmaker like Rondo or DWill,Beverly and Lin are nice players off the bench but that's it. No capable back ups for Harden,Howard and Parsons This team is not a championship calliber team unless Morey makes some moves.
The Rockets are working on all of this except McHale isn't going anywhere until after the season at the earliest.
Teamwork Lacking If you took the coaches in the Western conference and ranked them, where would you put McHale? Is he in the top 8? I doubt it. Even Jason Kidd and Jeff Hornacek look like better player turned coach hires than McHale. If you need a refreshing look at what the Rockets "system" (if we can really call it that) is supposed to look like, go out to YouTube and catch the Vipers for a quarter. That advice might actually help McHale figure out what to do as a coach. They at least play with purpose, and on defense they help each other - trap the ball - pick up in the backcourt - play transition defense - etc. McHale's best attribute has be relating to players. He understands the life of a star and the NBA as a business. He's also likeable - but at the moment none of that is translating into teamwork, trust, and strategic play. The argument, "We need to wait and let the guys play together for a bit" is dead. Here's why: they don't play together! When the key pass has to be made Harden doesn't trust his shooters, and they honestly haven't given him much to trust. At times, a coach has to be man enough to tell the star to sit on the bench for going off the script. McHale seems to be able to do that to less experienced players (like Motiejūnas) but not to Lin or Harden (or even Jones). And we have a dominant big man and can not feed the post. These are professionals, and if they can't play together -let's move on. It's going to take a strong locker room presence to keep this team together. To recap: Do we have a top 8 coach? No. Our coaches get a failing grade because they are not getting the most out of players. Our players don't seem to like or trust one another on the court. This is getting worse. There's not much of a system at work here. We have players that can't take advantage of a huge mismatch at the 5. Basketball is still a big man's game. .
Mostly agree with a couple of exceptions...... JL is a turnover machine, but I wouldn't call him lazy. PG is our weakest position. I would give DMo one more summer and bring him back next fall for one more chance....but the clock is running.
"that dog won't hunt no mo" made me crack up, did you get that from the movie Bernie, OP? Garcia and Casspi have been a huge disappointment.
Welcome aboard OP! For this thread being your first post, you actually did pretty good, although you really didn't give us anything that we don't already know. Just keeping it real, like you said, your a long time lurker! ....... ....... .......
1. I agree, but we need a coach that will be his own man, not a Morey puppet. (This is why I'm not as hell-bent on McHale being fired as I once was.) 2. I think five years from now, we look back, and many will realize the Dwight Howard acquisition was a big mistake. I'd personally take an Asik with improvements from last year than Dwight. 3. Lin was a good fit for Moreyball like a cross was a good fit for Dracula...... We went after a player who didn't have a chance to succeed under the current system and coaches. Cut the losses, trade him or waive him. 4. DMo was also an awful fit for Moreyball.... Both Lin and DMo could flourish in a different system. 5. Give Garcia some screens, and he'll be OK. The Rox set the fewest screens of any team in the league. 6. The Harden paradox.... He has great footwork on offense, but he has awful footwork on defense..... Harden's defense wasn't nearly as big of an issue when Asik was our starting center. The Dwight acquisition may have hurt Harden more than anyone else.
Hey Fellas...yeah, I said Lin was lazy but that is hard to gage at times I guess. My point is that, all too often, most teams' opposing PGs seem to be able to beat him at will. Enough about him though... On the bright side: I think Casspi, despite his inconsistancy, will prove to be a keeper. Also, I think Smith is the most improved Rocket and will surprise us as he starts to get more playing time. Hope he stays healthy. If Smith proves to be more than capable, in exchange for Asik, we can concentrate on getting some perimeter defense and much needed point guard help. A stetch 4 can be picked up later.
