EXACTLY! He isn't needed on the other end. hell, I think 90% + of all those plays where he gets a block we score QUICKLY thanks to Alston pushing the ball up the floor. So it wouldn't matter. I love Deke, I too am about to get a Jersey made with his name/number.
We all love Deke. I said it before and I say it again: I hope that RA will limit his minutes, because we are going to need him during playoffs. He is not going to last long with 20+ minutes per night.
Deke is the MAN!!! Did yall here Tmac getting emotional during that Ric Bucher interview right before the half? Deke is an inspiration and just a great guy to have around. He's just one more reason why the Rockets are a great team to cheer for, even if they do rip out your heart and crap on it sometimes.
Deke is going to be joining Calvin on his show this evening (5-7 pm on ESPN 97.5 The Ticket) so be sure to tune in That is all
I have so much respect for this guy. I hope he will retire as a Rocket...it would be an honor for this franchise. The man is truly "inspirational" on and off the court.
deke found the fountain of youth and showed mcgrady where it is. thats the key to our turnaround. all deke needs to do now is show dream, glyde and bull where the fountain is so we can bring the chip home.
It's pretty amazing. I said in the offseason that it would be foolish to rely on Deke to repeat his performance from last season if Yao went down with an injury. I didn't think we should resign him. Well, he's proving me wrong. I hope to see him again next season, in fact. Even when he isn't playing, he's a valuable member of the team as a practice player and a guy to mentor the youngsters.
They only gave him credit for 3 last night on yahoo sports and nba.com. It looked like he had at least 4. Two on Mello, one on Anthony Carter, one on K-Mart, and maybe another one. Mutombo can still play. The Rockets should resign him for two more years. He is in tremendous shape. Just look at the guy. I know in his heart he still wants to play especially so his young kids can continue to see their father out on the court. Just limit his mins to about 20 a game. Deke should've been playing when Yao was healthy thereby reducing Yao's mins. When everybody is healthy, Mutombo should play so that Yao doesn't have to play so many mins. Why this was not done last year and this season is beyond me. I want to underscore the fact that this isn't a fluke. He did the same thing last year and is doing it again this year. He can still do the same thing next year and the year after that. Whatever happens, I'm savoring every moment, every block, and every finger wag. We might not see a player like Mutombo ever again.
Don't know if I'd go that far. Certainly still the most intimidating though. If he wants to come back I'm sure there is a contract already printed for him. I wonder why Yao doesn't block more shots? He's got the two most prolific shot-blockers of all-time (since blocks became an official stat) mentoring him and he's 7 freakin 6.
