I love LJS's...I usually only eat it during Lent, but sometimes I eat it because I have a craving for greasy food...

I love their Fish with that awesome tartar sauce and those damn hush puppies...I always get a box of crumbs...I know its not good for me, but damn is it good...

The one on South Main is still kickin', and the gumbo and fried catfish ROCK!!! If ya want fried shrimp, keep going towards the loop on South Main and go to Baytown Seafood. Best fried shrimp in the city!

There is one near my house at West Bellfort and South Post Oak. I don't think I will every be hungry and broke enough to eat there.

Exactly, DoD doesn't know what he is talking about. You open about six packs of tarter sauce and smother your hush puppies and fish with it. The key is putting enough tarter sauce on it to drown out the greasy taste. hmmmm....

For those curious about LJS's and Captain D's

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll make my way to both places when I visit later in the year.

But I tell ya, the few things I desperately miss (foodwise) about that city would have to be Benny's catfish/gumbo (the gumbo was indeed orgasmic), Goode Co. sliced/chopped steak sandwich (honorable mention to the side dishes there also), and the now defunct China Station's (was in Rice Village; now occupied by a Jamba Juice) (Return of the) Phoenix chicken. There are many more I can't think of.

But yes, seafood + Houston = good.

Oh, and I'm sure someone can answer this; Gaido's (which I thought was Guido's for a while since their sign was so hard to read) still exists I presume. Last time I ate there it seemed to be going downhill. Still good?

i'm a big believer that Gaido's is vastly overrated. i prefer Benno's, which is east of Gaido's. it's not exactly a place you dress up for, but it's far better in my opinion.
