Did I say I liked this idea? No, I did not.

But one person's over-regulation is another person's perfect regulation and still someone else's under-regulation. UK is definitely left of the US, particularly in London. So maybe we're just agreeing that this thread topic is not a big deal for London (?).

Which one? That a Muslim mayor was elected or that one of his first actions is to try and regulate how women shown in public should look or not look? The latter is very much reminiscent of Erdogan in principle, although admittedly not anywhere near (yet?) in extent.

Sorry, I meant the recent topic.

Not sure the "muslim" part is key to a left-leaning candidate promoting a left-leaning campaign promise and then trying to institute said promise once elected.

Just don't think this "and so it begins" (doom and gloom music!) is really a big deal or telling about "what's to come". That's all.

You might be right. However, there are parallels. And it might be a mix of both. In any case, I don't like it because I am a liberal. In the non-leftist sense.

It is a weird intersection of ideologies. Ban body types on mannequins. Ban skin shown in posters. Under the name of being body positive or just being a religious prude.

What does he consider "unrealistic" body images? We need more half naked, semi-naked, and completely naked images of attractive human beings on billboards, not less.

An ex of mine was a fashion nut and it sorta rubbed off on me. The UK kinda has a history of banning fashion ads. Most of the time its been for risque perfume ads that border on the pornographic. Recently it's been lolita stuff like the Dakota Fanning Marc Jacobs ad & super skinny thispo stuff. Now the trend is towards promoting, in clutchfans terms, chubby chick body types.

I spent a summer in India before you were born, bud, and I certainly know a heck of a lot of South Asian history. What I fail to see is what that has to do with a gentleman being elected Mayor of London who happens to have a Pakistani heritage.

I do apologize, it's not like Hindus and Buddhists are completely free of blood on their hands. It's just the extreme that make this world horrible.

I'm Indian and grew up among plenty of Pakistanis. Aside from when everyone gets riled up over a cricket game, no one cares.

I feel like you're just trying to prove there is some sort of inherent animosity among Indians and Pakistanis. It certainly exists in both India and Pakistan but for those that have left both countries, that stuff is far more muted and irrelevant.

Fully agree. Muslim from Bombay here. Majority of my friends now are Pakistanis. Aside from some good natured ribbing during cricket World Cup, no one really cares about that stuff here.

Pakistani journalist, Khurram Zaki, was shot to death in Karachi hours after posting this to Facebook:

That's horrible. It goes to show how the end game of a totalitarian, fascist, intolerant ideology works. Pakistan is like the apocalypse for freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

Yep. Another case in point, my sister (Indian-American) is best friends with a Pakistani-American. It's not even an issue we think about.
