You can save a lot of cash by staying in cheap as dirt hostels in Europe. You most likely won't be spending much time in your room anyway, so why not use that money for something else. I personally loved London, though I wasn't there for only 2-3 days. Great public transit, tons of pubs, and a group of boozehound friends can make for some wonderful times.

If the OP wants a recommendation for a nice and CLEAN hostel for London, I recommend the London Generator. It's relatively close to a lot of things and the subway system is just a couple of blocks away.

I would definitely cut it to two cities (London & Paris). They are in the same general vicinity and you could easily catch the chunnel between the two cities. June was my first European trip (London, Prague, and Amsterdam in 10 days) with the majority of my time in London. I had 5 days in London and felt completely rushed trying to see/do everything. After visiting Prague and Amsterdam, it made me feel even more rushed in London. Prague and Amsterdam were much more enjoyable (smaller, slower pace, fewer people, less need for public transportation).

Be prepared to be on the tube the majority of your time in London. Tube and/or bus everywhere you go depending where you stay. I liked all 3 places, but London is just overwhelming and in my opinion could take up all of your travel time and you'd be completely happy.

Have a great trip and enjoy the different cultures.

Just spend the whole time in Amsterdam

I've never been to Europe, just wanted to drop in and say I'm extremely jealous and good luck on your trip.

Do it like you planned it. You get a good first impression of each city. You could always come back later with more time to the city you feel you should spend more time in.

ok here is an update because i know everyone was so eager to hear my travel plans

    day 1 flight to london
    day 2 london
    day 3 london
day 4 to rome/night in rome
    day 5 rome
    day 6 rome
    day 7 rome
    day 8 rome
day 9 to paris/night in paris (sounds dirty)
    day 10 paris
    day 11 paris
    day 12 paris
    day 13 flight to austin

With just a few extra days everything looks a lot less rushed. And Pippendagimp I think you changed my mind about flying between cities and will just use rail.

And also if anyone has any random ideas/stories about some favorite things you have done in any of these cities im game.

Remember that travel days will be largely consumed with travel, and there won't be much time for sight seeing.

In that amount of time, you won't be able to see everything there is to see in those places. But knowing that ahead of time, you can focus on fewer things to see, and focus on them.

Have an idea of secondary places and things you wish to see or do as well. Some things may take less time, or while there you may change your mind or learn about other ideas for sight seeing while in the cites that you hadn't thought of before.

That way you can see what you would like from those places, and because you won't see everything you'll have plenty of incentive to get back and visit again.

    1. You don't need to take a taxi from the Paris airport. The RER will take you into town and is connected with the general subway system. It was expensive for a subway ticket, but cheap compared to a taxi. I'd think you could do the same in London and Rome.

    2. Look for a tourist pass from the cities' tourist bureaus. The one for Rome is RomaPass.

    3. Rome was incredible because I'd just be walking from one planned destination to another planned destination and see a dozen cool things I never knew about in between.

By the time you reach your third city, you're probably going to be exhausted.
