it teaches to kill the infidels...which is what these muslims do in the name of allah...that is a tad more hate than distrust imo.
You frequently make fun of white people like this, and it's just as bad as if I were to say that you should go back to your smelly Bangladeshi people and live in a cardboard shanty.
At a White House dinner, a churchman offered a benediction and closed with the pious affirmation: "The Lord is on our side." When President Lincoln did not respond to this sentiment, someone asked him, "Don't you believe, Mr. President, that the Lord is always on the side of the right?" "I am not concerned about that," was Lincoln's answer, "for we know that the Lord is always on the side of the right. My concern is that I and this nation should be on the Lord's side. I wonder what GWB's take on this quote is.
i couldn't agree more. the problem is, as tigermission states: "It's all politics man, they are afraid of the public perception of "aiding" the occupation of Iraq." "they" need to get beyond this fear, now, or we'll never really get on the road to a peaceful middle east. don't we all want that?
I agree that the in the long run its in the interest of other Arab countries to see a stable Iraq but for the most part they see this as the US's mess and one they want very little to do with. Even though I believe that the US should be committed to staying in Iraq until its stabilized I'm also beginning to think that a US withdraw, or threatened withdraw might prompt other Arab countries to take a role in Iraq, since at that point they can't say they're supporting the US but acting to help their Arab brethren. Of course that could also be turned back against us by saying "Look at the mess the US has callously left behind."
never read it..nor do i remember anyone killing masses of innocent people carrying bibles and praising Christ as they fly planes into buildings and the like
The Bible is also filled with hate for non-Christians. Jesus called the Jews who rejected his teachings in Palestine sons of Satan. (John 8:44) Go pick up a history book on the Crusades, or the Spanish Inquisition any believer of Christianity or Islam who follows their holy texts exactly has to think that non-believers are evil - to do otherwise goes against their holy texts like has been said, fundamental following of the Bible or Quran leads to some scary people
No reason to make fun of the Bangladeshi ppl. What would Babu Bhat say? He most def. would not allow you into his Word Cafe! I am most certainly appalled at your lack of discretion when hurling insults!
Perhaps then Modern Christians are better off than Modern Muslims for not heeding everything in their Holy books. "Any Israelite or alien who living in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death. The people of the community must stone him." Leviticus 20:1 "In the cities of the nations the Lord your God has given you as an inheritance do not leave alive anything that breathes." Deuteronomy 20:15 Your point was that Islam teaches Muslims to hate and kill infidels and thus a critique on Islam in general and not just particular Muslims. My counterpoint is that if we are judging a religion on those terms then Christianity is just as culpable too since its holy book also teaches killing of infidels.
You are refering to the sections dealing with the war between the Jahiliyyah and the Muslims. It is historical, and cannot be applied today.
Prove yourself. DO NOT MAKE BASELESS ASSUMPTIONS, that you hear on the radio, or see on TV. PROVE THIS. PROVE IT WITH A VERSE FROM THE QURAN, and or from hadith, and make sure you know the context of the verse before you post it.
I disagree, because the Christians of Jesus (pbuh)'s time or the Muslims of the time of Mohammad pbuh's time did not think all non believers are evil and should be killed. Infact they actually were very respectful and only faught when they wre attacked or they were in fear of being attacked.
Uh-oh...I smell another pointless religious debate (or mud-slingin' rather) comin' up! Stick to the topic
I think that the Muslim countries should be doing much, much more to denounce terror and to fight it. It's completely in their best interest. If their goal is to have people view Islam favorably, they need to be much more proactive about fighting and denouncing terror. Every time some idiot Muslim extremist blows up something in the name of Allah, Islam loses credibility and is taken down a notch in everybody's minds. As much as people say, oh, well those terrorists don't represent real Muslims, the stigma lingers.
Reading a thread like this makes me realize how much ignorance there is about the Bible and Christian theology among many of you... and makes me realize that, despite the fact I've read most of it, how much ignorance I must have about the Koran.
When you say people, you mean Americans and Europeans. Why would Muslims care what Americans and Europeans think about them? Muslims already feel that the Western world is threatening them. Why would they care that much about what Westerners say about them? For example, China wants the US to move out of some bases stationed near China. If the US does so, China would view the US more favorably. But will the US do it? Heck no. Because the US doesn't care what China thinks. The US already views China as the enemy.
NJRocket: It doesn't take a genius to see that when VinceCarter said he feared for the Muslims, he was obviously talking about a possible backlash in retaliation. You in return ran with that inquiring why there should be sympathy for the people who did this. No matter how much you back off now, seems like a pretty broad generalization to me. Just because someone thinks it does, does not mean it does. Tigermission already showed that maybe only a miniscule percentage of the worldwide Muslim population engages in these acts. Due to your ignorance, I'm assuming you are referring to the oft-mentioned verse in the Qu'ran which states "to seek out the infidels wherever they may be." Yawn, this has been discussed ad-nauseum. The Quran was not revealed at once, but rather in parts in response to certain circumstances - this particular verse was a direction during the time of warfar after an act of treachery. You don't see me taking President Bush's wartime "Bring 'em on!" gusto out of context as meaning "kill any Arab" do you? Stop making this a religious issue. This is political. You obviously hate Muslims so why not stop backing off your initial, unequivocal remarks and step up to the plate.
So trying to get back on topic... Arab view: 'Enough, enough' Some Muslims fear backlash after UK bombs By Octavia Nasr CNN Senior Editor for Arab Affairs (CNN) -- Arabs and Muslims in Britain and across the world expressed outrage at the terrorist attacks in London, with the dominant viewpoint summed up by one person who wrote on a Web site, "Enough ... enough." The loud condemnation of the attacks that targeted civilians reverberated on the street, over the Internet, in newsrooms, and in Arab and Muslim seats of power. Minority voices praised the attacks with anti-Western invective, but they were largely drowned out. On one popular Web site, one person wrote: "How can you gloat and thank God for terrorist acts that were committed in the name of God???? Shaaaaaaaaaaaame on you Muslims. "Don't you know that Islam is growing in Europe??? What the heck are you doing mingling things up??? What you're doing has no logic and certainly doesn't fall under the good wisdom God has asked us to follow." Still, some stated anger at what they say are brutal U.S. and British policies targeting Arabs and Muslims. And many expressed fears that a stretch of bad times is in store for Arabs and Muslims. The London terror strikes, targeting three subway stations and a double-decker bus, killed more than 50 people wounded hundreds. Authorities are looking into the possibility of al Qaeda's involvement. London Police Commissioner Ian Blair said the attacks showed the "hallmarks of al Qaeda." The September 11, 2001 al Qaeda attacks in the United States sparked some anger at Arabs and Muslims, which U.S. leaders and others worked to quickly counteract. Officials from countries like Iraq and Iran issued condemnations of the strikes. Some prominent Arab writers said the attacks were a reminder that efforts to fight terrorism were necessary. Jihad al-Khazen, an op-ed columnist for the London-based pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper, wrote: "Such criminal terror acts prove that no measure is enough to fight terrorism. "Actions that governments take to fight terrorism are totally justified because protecting life is a lot more important than protecting civil liberties." He said he was saddened "that there are people in our Arab world that continue to sympathize with terrorism." "This is our sick reality and it doesn't help anyone to pretend this mentality doesn't exist. One can't ignore the fact that Arab governments didn't act early on to crush the extreme movements growing in our midst." He criticized the United States and Britain, saying he hoped they would change policies that fostered "hatred around the world and make it easy for groups like al Qaeda to recruit and execute terror attacks." On the Arabic-language TV network Al Jazeera, Mohammed Amara -- identified as an Islamist thinker in Cairo -- said "those who want to perform jihad (Muslim holy war) should go and fight the occupiers in the battlefield and not kill unexpecting innocent people. "We (Muslims) do not kill clerics, we do not kill women, we do not kill children, we do not kill trees. This is what the prophet taught us. The U.S. and Britain are committing atrocities against our people everywhere but we shouldn't respond to a crime with a crime." TV network Al-Arabiya, on its Web site, solicited readers' responses to the attacks. Several expressed happiness, with comments such as "Allahu Akbar, thanks be to God," "More power to al Qaeda leader Osama (bin Laden)," and "What did you expect? This is only a response to the what the British government has done to the group regardless of which group it is." In response, these notes were posted: "To the heroes of Arabism and Jihad, since you are sparing no method to attack the West and you gloat as you try to kill the largest number of civilians. How would you like it if the West relieves itself of your headache by hitting you with one of its nuclear weapons. It takes only minutes and then there will be no heroes, no men and no shish kebab." Another wrote: "Why you are so happy about something like this?" What if one of your family members in London died? Even in a war, don't kill women, children, old people ... please Muslims think before you judge any action, and think about your actions and judge yourself before you judge people." There were similar responses to another posting, in which someone said: "What happened to them is less than what they deserve" because of all of the people killed in the Muslim world daily. "I hope they will get more and more every day," this writer said. Writers punched back, saying there was no excuse for such attacks. Responses included: "Those terrorists have ruined the reputation of Arabs in Europe" and have hurt the religion. "Arabs will be facing more harassment now. That's why Arabs should stand together against these terrorist groups which has only one goal of killing innocent women, elderly and children." "We are entering a difficult times in Europe, especially difficult for our brothers who live in dignity and prosperity in Europe while they enjoy the vastness of the continent after they escaped their governments' dictatorships." "One of the targeted areas today is Edgware road, which is entirely accommodated by Muslims and Arabs. Do you know that no politicians, army troops, or any important governmental employees use the underground or buses, because simply they have no much more money to use a private car. "This is not Islam. Aldgate station is a two-minute walk from the largest Muslim community in London. So please don't be happy." One writer said "innocent people have been attacked while going about their daily routine... Londoners are the most hard working and efficient city folk I have ever seen, and they shall overcome these awful events and prevail. Blair has a lot of explanation to be done. I am an Arab, and rest assured that we are all shocked and angry. "We love London!" http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/07/08/london.muslims/index.html
