Cat, what offer from Houston do you believe is the offer that would trump Horford/Teague/picks? I think IF Atlanta is indeed offering that package, it certainly is better than the Nets package mainly because Horford is a better player than Lopez. The Rockets don't have that one singular player that is better than either, so do the Rockets have a collective grouping that will trump that? I would think the Toronto "lottery pick" is the key piece.

I agree totally..... good compare and contrast of the two players.Orlando has a tuff decision to make and given bynum just gave his short list of F.A. destinations it makes it
a hard pill to swallow for the magic knowing getting bynum ( which is hands down the best offer on the table ) is not for sure he will stay.which in that cause and way of thinking makes Houston the next best thing.I mean bynum seems to like us. Maybe we make a play for him with Orlando when he is ready to bounce town!! It would be the same story but different player.....you guys would have a ball with that I'm sure!!

So you might have bynums short list to Thank if Orlando goes Houston.

Is the Dallas pick lotto protected? They only finished 2 games ahead of us last year...and having lost Terry and Kidd, Im not quite sure they have what it takes to make the playoffs.

If it isnt lotto protected, then we could potentially have 3 lotto picks next year.

It has to fall in the 21-30 range for us to get it.

it's top 20 protected, but the great thing about it is that if they don't finish in the top 10 till 2016 (i think), it becomes unprotected.

I think both the Dallas pick and the Toronto pick are about as valuable as anything that is being offered in terms of players (including Horford). Both picks have the potential to be high lottery picks (Dallas is AWFUL, and Toronto is one year away from being a playoff contender), while our youngsters give them nice, high-upside players on rookie contracts that will help them mitigate cap space. While Horford is a nice player, he certainly isn't an anchor to rebuild a team with, and he's coming off an injury. I still think the Rockets offer gives the Magic everything they want in turning the page from the Dwight Howard era.

actually now that Dallas lost out on Williams and Cuban will do anything to prolong Dirk's career I think it will delay the rebuilding just in time for that pick to become an unprotected pick when they tank.

That would be sweet. I'm not sure they can rebuild that fast and Dirk will be closing it out then.

Can't remember the exact parameters, but yes, it eventually becomes an unprotected first, and by the time it does, Dallas may have a **** team. Who knows? That's what makes it especially attractive as a trade piece, IMO.

I was thinking the same thing.

That Dallas will be good enough to make the playoffs until Dirk calls quits and we get a unprotected pick on a rebuilding year for Dallas. Would be great.

Ric Bucher ‏@RicBucherSee reports that Cha would take MarShon Brooks to be third team in Nets-Magic DH deal. Source says exact opposite: Cha wants a 1st rd pick.

Lol, its funny seeing the media fall for everything they hear. The Nets were never in it...they were pawns the entire way.

Latest Y! Sports reporting on Dwight Howard trade talks. http://tinyurl.com/cmqh8xc

The development has pushed the Magic to continue negotiating with several teams, especially two teams in the Western Conference: the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.
The Rockets could be the most intriguing possibility for the Magic because they can satisfy Orlando general manager Rob Hennigan’s desire to get multiple draft picks and unload significant salary off his payroll. The Lakers have the one player, Andrew Bynum, that Hennigan covets, but Bynum hasn't committed to accepting an extension in Orlando, nor do the Lakers have the salary-cap space or ready access to draft picks.

    This is still going on?

Should also add: Cavs developing (furthering?) reputation as an annoying trade partner. Hard to pin down, constantly revising terms.

Also see reports that Cavs are out of deal. Source says their position hasn't changed: not all the way in, not all the way out.

    -----------------------------------------------

Woj: The Cleveland Cavaliers are no longer willing to be third-team facilitators for a blockbuster trade that would send Orlando Magic All-Star center Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets, severely jeopardizing the Nets' ability to acquire Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Brooklyn needed Cleveland to take free-agent forward Kris Humphries in a sign-and-trade deal, so the Nets could clear the necessary salary-cap space to absorb the contracts of three Magic players, including Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark.

Several league executives with knowledge of the negotiations believe the small-market Cavaliers had become sensitive to criticism they were contributing to the construction of another big-market super power.

Brooklyn has left the Magic with several scenarios of direct deals between the two teams, but with the moratorium on free-agent signings ending on Wednesday, the Nets are losing the ability to keep their own free agents needed for a sign-and-trade with Orlando – Brook Lopez, Humphries, Damion James and Shelden Williams – from seeking out deals elsewhere in the league.

The Nets have been engaged with Lopez’s representatives on a maximum contract extension, and if they feel like the possibility of acquiring Howard is slipping away, they’ll likely move to complete a deal with the restricted free agent in the next few days.

The Magic received medical reports on Lopez on Tuesday morning, and league sources said Orlando officials have concerns about committing four years of near-maximum contract money considering that he broke his foot twice last season and only appeared in five games.
