Tony Parker is a "Duncan-first" PG.

Sorry, you guys have yet to name a single player that truly played "score first."

Even Magic Johnson created for his teammates in a way that St... hell, Mark Jackson... could never hope to emulate.

Name the last time a team without the most dominant PLAYER won it all?

    That's really the question.

Positions are interchangeable in today's NBA.

Hmmm. In '98, Shaq was probably a better player than Jordan.

Then I think you'd have to go back to those Pistons teams - I don't think Thomas was the best in the NBA, but he had a hellvua supporting caste.

You know, "score first" point guard is really whatever definition you want to make it....you can categorize by assists, shots, whatever the hell you want.

The bottom line is that you guys have already pre-decided that it is bad, and that Steve is it, so who cares who they name?

You're just going to come up with a qualifier anyway.

All that I know is this: Yao isn't as good as TIm Duncan, Hakeem, or Shaq yet, so there are going to be nights when Steve et al are going to have to be score first.

Kobe brought the ball up court therefore he was the point guard

True. But you need to look at the logic of the original post to lend the definition to the critics.

The logic of the original post was to justify Steve's style of play. Therefore, a score first pg, in the context of this thread, is defined.

Oh please. That's right. We all just want to dismiss whatever Steve is. That must be it.

No, you're reversing our suppositions. If Steve is a score first PG, then we don't want that with the rest of our current team (and specifically, Yao). Steve has, ultimately, been a failed experiment.

Ok. That's true of any PG. But the problem is that steve almost always has as many shots as Yao, regardless of how well Yao plays.

The problem is that Steve seemingly cannot play within the system that best fits the team. He demands the ball to be effective. And when given the ball, he's not consistently effective enough to lead a good team.

oh my freakin god.. talk about a weak response.. i cant even laugh for your extreme dumbness. shaq brought the ball some times, even on fast breaks, so, therefore, he's a point guard.. dope! see, what you made me do.. are you contagious or something?
