used to be a complete clean freak. but it was to the point of being too far, so i've learned and gotten better about that. Now I stay clean, and i'm still a freak about things that could build up smells/bacteria like dirty dishes, food wrappers, food, dirty clothes, etc. But other stuff sometimes lays out and gets cleaned more for company or when I have time. Work is better than school, but it doesn't leave you with random free time to do stuff like clean up (unless you don't do anything in the evenings, of course...but that's usually out or relax time or something random)
try keeping it clean w/a Dogue de Bordeaux in the house. all i can say is thank goodness for girlfriends & maids.
I've been here, just had less stuff to post or been too busy at the times when people were posting interesting threads. (do y'all not work during the work day or something? ) I am attempting to get a life.
The biggest problem we have is the freaking mail piling up. I mean it's bad. Made worse by the fact that my wife insists that we shred things like credit card offers, which creates a huge bottle neck. My proposed solution is to get an old oil barrel or something and burn the mail in the back yard each week. So far I haven't sold her on this idea.
I clean like crazy, my parents never were clean and it always pissed me off... When I left for college I knew how I never wanted to live again and I havent looked back..
I live alone now, but I am a big time hypocrite with my cleaning habits. I try to be really clean with my living room. My bedroom is always a disaster area. I cannot stand people who don't rinse dishes immediately after they have been used, yet I'll leave a pile of rinsed, but still dirty dishes in and around my sink until I run out. In my bathroom, I always leave the sink counter in good shape, yet leave dirty clothes lying around. The only plus I have is that I can clean my place up for company in 15 minutes. Of course, now that my leg is broken, the entire place has gone to pot.
Also, the funny thing is, even though I'm a neat freak, I don't have any hang-ups about germs at all. In fact, I probably do too much stuff that shows a total lack of respect for germs, even mocking them in a way, trying to tempt them to make me sick. Too bad my immune system is top-notch because of my diet! Take that you germs!
Believe it or not, my friends did this last year. They had a burning barrel outside in their backyard and whenever it was time for their monthly cleaning of their house they would just take all the pizza boxes and trash laying around the house and throw it in the barrel, light it up, and sit back and relax.
Thats pretty gross dude. I dont know how or why anyone in the world makes their bed. Its such a pointless waist of 5 minutes of my life. My girlfriend is completely obsessive/compulsive about it, and even freaks out a little when I mess up the sheets when we are lying in it.... geeeze I get pretty lazy with clothes in the bedroom. Its such a b**** to keep things tidy in there. I have clothes basically everywhere. Im not really sure which ones are dirty and which are clean. I mean you have to take all your clothes, wash them, change them to the dryer (where they are usually left to re-tumble to get the wrinkles out), fold them, then put them away. Too many steps!!! Bathroom and kitchen stay relatively clean, although I used to be pretty gross in that area....
You're not one of those, "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down" people. I can put up with many things, but when you're house smells like a sewer, it's time to change.
I have clothes everywhere too, but only clean. I just haven't folded them or sorted through them. The dirty ones do get sequestered, so I'll know and won't have to go through and sniff everything to see which is which. I agree that there's no point in making the bed. It's depressing. It means you can't get back into it when you need to. That bed should always be there for you. Also, who wants to sleep on crisp sheets? What's the point? You're going to be curling up in them and getting comfortable. That's what they should be for. I have several blankets and sheets and don't even care if I end up under all of them as long as I end up mostly under most of them. mmmmm, bed.... I'm going to go take a nap right now. Really.
The massive amount of junk mail I get is part of what keeps some of my rooms messy. I'm always putting off putting it into the shredder.
Sadly I've never been a tidy person. The problem has just been exascerbated ever since I got to college. My room isn't gross, mind you, theres no rotting food lying around or anything, it's just very, very cluttered.
