    Great post!:D

I do love Wilk's game and I love the way scales plays.

Snackbar needs a lot of seasoning. I think he might be okay, but whether its a Confidence standpoint or whatever, he needs a lot of help.

You do understand that Nachbar (like Yao Ming) is a 1st round pick with a guaranteed 3 years and a team option for a 4th? Van Gundy is not going to cut Boki in year 2 and continue to pay him for this year and next. We all know what JJax can do and AGriff is recovering from minor surgery. They need to keep taking a long look because once the season starts, no one will get PT without earning it.

Otherwise, thanks for the nice write up.

    A few responses:

    1. Mike Wilks - All night, he'd drive to the hoop, Sonics would converge and he'd kick it out. Several times, he'd drive to the rim, have a shot at a layup because he quickly beat his man off the the dribble, but because he's like 5'9" couldn't finish in traffic. Not sure why defenders even converge on players like this before they even show they can finish a play.

    2. Nachbar - Yes, you're right, he's still in his rookie contract and JVG won't cut him. Hell, Jason Collier festered on the Rockets bench and IR for a full 3 yrs before he was shown the door, so I'm sure a Euro that was compared to Peja 2 yrs ago will get a long look - However, based on his performance last night, I really don't expect JVG to play him in any sort of significant way this year.

    3. Meneke observations - this guy has some pipes for arms and actually looks super strong. A couple of times he defended Vitaly Potepenko in the post and didn't give much ground and bullied Vlade Rad., but he doesn't have much skills and gets no respect from the refs on D. Could end up being a Juaquin Hawkins type, but I don't think JVG favors these CBA scrappers with little skills like Rudy does - especially at a position that they signed 3 free agents at - the 3 spot.

    4. Scales observations - seems like he's a scorer and not much else. Didnt do alot of scoring at the game, however.

Thanks for the recap Tranmerica, but there's a coupla of things in your post that don't really fit the box score. First of all Scales was the high scorer of the game with 16 pts. on 5-10 shooting 5-6 ft's. Also Moochie only missed one ft out of 6. Anyways, I agree with a lot of what you said about Wilks, Muoneke, and Nachbar. Hopefully Wilks will make the team (and Scales!), but I doubt Muoneke will. And I agree Nachbar is nearing the , he needs to show more these next two games.

You are way ahead of me here because I don't live in Houston and NBALP has not shown any Rox games. From your description, I would have to say Calvin Murphy is going to love Wilks if he makes the team. Murph is also 5'9" and will influence Wilks to be more of a mid-range "stop and pop" type. Is there a hidden upside to Wilks' game?

Can't disagree. IMO, Nachbar will be behind JJ and AG (and maybe Pike) on the SF depth chart.

    But to be fair, these are Peja's 1st year stats - 21+ mpg / 8.4 ppg / 3.0 rpg / 1.5 apg / 1.1 to/g. Peja shot 37.8 % from the field and 32.0 % from the arc.

The Kings drafted Peja in '96 and he played in Greece for 2 years before coming to the NBA in '98.

Again, thanks for the live report.

Very good post. Thanks a lot. I hope you get to make a regular season game so you can give a recap on play that counts.

Good post tran. Still, I was watching the game on TV and, though it might not be as accurate making observations on the small screen as watching live, I have a few points I have to disagree on.

    1) A backcourt of Wilks/Scales, though pretty small, seemed to be a good sparkplug tandem. Wilks played some good hustling D and broke down the traps. Scales showed good range in the Portland game and though he didn't show that range in this game, he still proved he could be relied upon as a scorer off the bench if we need him in the season.

    2) The "Cornell is a poor man's Joel Pryzibilla" comment really threw me off. Honestly after watching him play, especially in this game, I thought he had some nice passing skills, some decent interior D, as well as a hint of a nice shot from farther than 5 feet. Besides, this "big white stiff" can actually jump and play D without fouling out in 6 minutes.
