Funny u guys mention Hard Boiled as a badass movie. Bruce Willis himself thinks the same thing, and he even brings it up while POSTING about LFoDH (link). His moniker there is: Walter B Confirmation that it's really him: http://www.cinematical.com/2007/05/10/bruce-willis-wades-into-the-geek-pool/ http://www.freezedriedmovies.com/bl...uce-Willis-a-Talkbacker-UPDATED.html#extended pretty cool. I know Chris Bosh has been responding to posts on his message board. Any other celebs?
I guess I'm in the minority here but I didn't like it so much. As a stand alone film it'd be pretty good I suppose. But it failed to have the feel of a Die Hard for me... ...some of that may be due to the lack of language and bloody violence (hell even his famous tagline was muffled a bit); or it might be because I wasn't captivated too much by the villains as they didn't seem to have much depth. Maybe it was the scope...the first one, clearly the best, was staged in a single office building. True, the series kept expanding its environments (a whole airport, a city) so would the next logical step involve multiple cities? Eh maybe not...should have scaled it back as involving the whole country and mainly the entire eastern seaboard seemed a bit unrealistic. And even in the third one, with all of New York as a backdrop, the movie itself still centered on a more narrowed environment of the federal bank reserve. Maybe it was the acting too...not Bruce Willis, he was perfectly fine; Justin Long was good too. My beef was the main FBI guy...pretty horrible stuff there. Or the fights, they just didn't seem as painful as in previous films, as engrossing or as lengthy...I mean when you got one of the leads from District B13 as a villain you would think you were in for an amazing action scene, which it was except that it ended way too soon. And then the story...the whole cyber terror angle...seems overused in this age and plus it just seemed too unrealisitc (probably because they made it seem so easy to hack into systems). Maybe I should give it another look, hopefully when the unrated cut comes out..but as of now it's my least favorite of the series.
Well, call me strange, but I'm almost 30 yrs. old and hadn't seen the first Die Hard until a few days ago. And, to be honest, I was bored to tears for most of the movie. I don't know why, but it was very slooooooow for me until the last 30-40 mins. I don't know, maybe I went into it expecting too much after years of hearing how good it was. Saw the latest today and I liked it. It didn't blow me away, but it was certainly entertaining. The only real issue I had was that they had pretty much showed all the big action scenes in commercials and trailers leading up to the release so they didn't have same eye-opening impact the should have had since I had already seen them.
Yeah, I though that was bad too. THose scenes would have been unbelievable, but you knew what was gonna happen. But, I know what ur sayin about the old movies. I saw the new one yesterday, and then watched the first one on tv again today, it didnt really grab my attention, but thats probably because I had already seen it before.
Well I watched all three leading up to the newest installment..and they still hold up very well...though I admit the first can be slow at times and does take awhile to get going...and the second one always seemed a little more boring than the others for some reason. I never get tired of the riddles in the third one though.
is he still a republican? he is definately coming around - "the U.S. government was overthrown in November 1963 and the military-industrial complex have been running the show ever since - they are still in power today. They still haven't caught the guy that killed [President] Kennedy. I'll get killed for saying this, but I'm pretty sure those guys are still in power, in some form. The entire government of the United States was co-opted," bruce willis - vanity fair i saw this movie last nite - im usually not into these kinds of films, but this was a real throwback to the action movies of 15-20 years ago - funny lines and blowing stuff up. it was ridiculous and totally unrealistic, but that is exactly what you want out of a die hard film. like rocky vi, which i also saw this week, die hard does the franchise no disservice. very entertaining. as far as the movie being pg-13, i honestly thought it was r. now that i think about it, they didnt drop any f-bombs, but i didnt notice and it didnt detract from my enjoyment of the movie at all - dont let the rating deter you! my only complaint would be that the "bad guys" were not developed very well - it was pretty much just a case of "we need some bad guys for bruce to kill and we will fill in the details later".
i honestly dont remember anything in n.h., except maybe that is where his daughter goes to school? most of it is d.c. and w. viginia.
i dont think its that long - i went to a 9:55 showing and even with 10 or 15 minutes of previews we still got out at 12:15.
My only complaint about the first one was Sergeant Exposition, played for these purposes by Reginald VelJohnson. His whole character was way too cheesy for me. His and his Lieutenant Chief's only purpose in the movie was to answer the audience's "This is ridiculous" statements concerning the newest development. Which would normally be fine if it was anything approaching subtle. But it wasn't. "I don't like this McClane guy, blah blah blah." "Don't you get it, Chief? He's tired, he's hurtin' blah blah blah" Other than that, the action, story, and everything else was awesome. Willis delivered lines in that movie that really make you see the difference between a PG-13 rating and an R one. "I'm not the one who just got buttf*cked on national tv!" "I'm gonna cook you, motherf*cker! I'm gonna cook you and I'm gonna eat you!" "I'm gonna kill you, motherf*cker!" So call me shallow for noticing some missing f-bombs, but McClane's character is supposed to be the opposite of PC. He's supposed to say the stuff you always wished action heroes would say. I was laughing my ass off when he was teasing Timothy Olyphant about his asian girlfriend though. And that sequence where he fights the wall-jumping guy was awesome. So many good things to like about this movie.
I can testify to that. BTW...I saw the movie yesterday. Go see it immediately, if not sooner. It was really good.
I know everyone here is loyal to the history and evolution of big action flicks and what a great role die hard played in that history but to me the greatest action movie I have seen has to be... True Lies It had everything in it. Plus Arnold is the king of action flicks and this was without a doubt his best.
My only knock with True Lies is that it takes a pretty long and slow tangent through the middle of the film...otherwise def a classic in the pantheon of action flicks...I'd also throw in The Rock, Face/Off and Speed in there...along with Hard Boiled, Die Hard and Rambo.
