seeing how cool that phone is im wondering what kind of phones they will have in 5 years or so. will be interesting
Like others I was also hesitant about how this would work out. But then I saw the demo videos from the apple site and was just blown away (please do see them if you havent). The interface and email/internet browsing functions were top-notch. With regards to Blackberry as competition, it is interesting to note that RIM's share price dropped like 7% or so after the announcement of the iPhone.
I'm thinking that this device is more consumer. It didn't say anything about any kind of business support such as Exchange sync, VPN network connectivity, or document storage and usage (Mobile Word, Excel, etc.). If these kind of features are included then fantastic. If not, I don't see anything happening to the Windows Mobile PDA devices or RIM's. At first I was really excited about this product and I still am but if I can't connect to my business networks and get my mail via exchange, it does me no good. I also want support for documents. I figure that these kinds of features will be included in future releases but until then I'm sticking with my 8525. Another concern that I have is how responsive will the phone be? Will it move as fast as the demo? Will the hardware be able to function as quickly as advertised? What kind of add on software will be available? I'm assuming that standard PDA software will not work on it. I'd also wait until they make a 3G phone. EDGE is ridiculously slow.
Stuff like this just chaps my butt. All the features are still only about 50% of what we were doing with the Gizmondo 2. If only our CEO and board of directors decided to actually commit to the device instead of stealing investors money. Link to article about Giz 2 Some announced features: GSM voice telephony Handsfree speakerphone Voice control using voice recognition software LCD TFT screen 4.0" 480 x 272 pixels Analog TV out 500MHz (min) processor Onboard RAM and flash SD flash card reader, Transflash card reader GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900MHz or 850/1800/1900MHz tri-band High sensitivity GPS receiver with assist capability Two analog joysticks 2 mega-pixel auto focus camera with LED flash WLAN 802.11b/g Remote control pod for wired headset SMS/MMS/IM receive and send Email client Satellite Navigation MP3/WMA/HE-AAC audio playback, MPEG-4/H.264/WMV video playback with hardware acceleration Bluetooth support for telephony (Headset/Handsfree), gaming, stereo headset (AV) Unnannounced features - The camera was actually a 5mg pixel camera which flipped up and allowed hand held video conferencing as long as you were connected to the internet via wireless. Also, since it was wireless, you had the ability to use Skype in your hands.....basically a free internet phone.... Ugh...what might have been. DD
Wow, the Gizmondo2 is a geek wet dream. Tell me you stole a prototype when all the bad stuff went down, DD.
the gizmondo has good features..but i doubt its nearly as thin..and it certainly doesnt have the form factor..it looks like a game gear..lol..but the specs are pretty darn nice
You were doomed with the name. You should have tried, "iGizmondo" and they would have sold like crazy.
I wonder if I dropped a deuce in a bag and called it iCrap if some Apple fanboys would pay me for it.
Someone not from apple has a 10-minute love affair with iPhone...... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2082361,00.asp
DD, Its form over function. The iphone really do anything more than a treo can. It just does it in an elegant way.
Bingo. And the touchscreen is a huge leap in interface. It's not new, but I can't think of a successful, consumer-level, mainstream device in the past that has incorporated it. And I'm not trying to stick up for Apple, I avoid their message boards like the plague except to pick up on rumors. I was floored by Jobs' demo though.
To be fair, it seems like Apple actually made the effort to use different tech in the touchscreen. I think they even got a patent on it?
