Sweet .. I have been wanting to buy a Ipod for my wife but also a new cell phone.. This works out for me.. Wife gets a new Phone, Ipod and her birthday is in June Bonus we are on the cingular network.. Love it...
I think the interface and internet capabilities of this phone are more of a selling point than the fact that itunes/mp3 is mixed in. Now if it was a 60GB iphone for that price...then that'd be awesome. Of course, that would completely cannibalize their ipod product, but the phone will eventually do that anyway.
I agree, the email/internet/widgets features make me want it more than mp3/video. That and Apple's top notch interface.
Definately getting the 8 gb version..waiting till june will be the hard part...I wonder how much it will be withOUT contract...im on cingular..but wont renew mainly because im a branch of a family plan.
I don't know if anyone has been watching Apple stock today, but my dad bought a bunch of shares this morning. He made a quick 1200.00 bucks so far today. It's projected to reach around 110.00 a share by the end of the year.
This phone is 600 bucks and you have to sign a 2 year contract. It looks OK but it's not worth that much money and being slave to a single provider for 2 years.
The phones don't have 3G though. I had the 8125 from cingular which used the EDGE network like the apple phone and the internet was freaking slow.
For me, I won't pay that much for a phone, no matter how much it does. I just want a simple phone. But, good LORD, that thing is sweet! Apple knows how to make products look freaking good. The "wow" factor they have is off the charts.
The new 8525 has 3G. I had the 8125 and they really fixed a lot of what I didn't like with the new model.
I'm not entirely sold. The dimensions are bigger than the Blackberry Pearl (all except the "thin" factor). Touch screens on phones also tend to be very hit and miss plus we have no idea how all the features will work together. I hate companies like Sony and Apple that overprice their merchandise. I would've bought an Apple a long time ago if it didn't cost an arm and a leg for a computer with 512 MB and a 30 GB hard drive. It's amazing that people will buy anything simply because it has the Apple logo on it without considering the bang for the buck. This phone is trying to do way too much and runs the risk of being a jack of all trades and master of none. 8GB is great but people who buy this almost certainly will already have an iPod, so why add that? How will the battery life be? The battery life on all versions of the iPod are very dodgy and I can't see this being any different. What does this phone have that makes it worth so much more than, say, a blackberry pearl? I hammered Sony for pricing their PS3 so high and using it as a means to get Blu-Ray a higher market share. Why is it any different here? Because there's an "i" in front of the name? Would the iPS3 have sold more? Again, this phone is 600 DOLLARS!!! If Blu-Ray and HD gaming is not worth 600 dollars, why would a phone with 8GB of memory worth it? Remember that price is with the 2 year deal so how much is it going to be without that?
On the cost, I actually agree, except that there are people who buy cars for $100,000 that are unreliable and have parts that cost more than most of us spend on rent. People bought the Razr (or however it is spelled) because it was pink. People spend more money on clothing that have designer labels even though they won't necessarily last longer or be in style longer. For products like these, it is ALL about the cool factor and Apple owns that. As for buying things just because of a logo, well, we are in a logo-obsessed culture. Read up on marketing today and every expert will tell you the way to get to young people is to get them hooked on your brand and your logo. They are extremely brand loyal. Kids don't buy sneakers based on how comfortable they are or how long they'll last. They buy them because other kids think they are cool. Apple gets that. Lastly, on Apple, not to get into a big Mac vs. PC debate because they each have their place, I haven't been a Mac user for 15 years because of the "logo." I use it because I HATE Windows, a completely inferior interface to Unix or OSX. I'd rather pay a little more (though, the laptop I type this on cost about what a decent PC laptop would cost with the same features) to get something I like, logo or not.
Just checked out all the videos. This will be another home run for Apple. The pictures and demos of the phone are quite amazing. On the price, I read somewhere that Apple negotiated hard for the phone company to NOT subsidize the price when bundling it with a contract. Apple wanted the iPhone to be distinctive (including the price) and not be lumped together with other cells phones, most of which are no more than cheap commodities likes bricks. The price of the iPhone is the true price instead of being subsidized by $200-$300.
I agree that people WILL buy it I'm just amazed that this is the case. Also, why does Sony get hammered on pricing while Apple gets a pass from most people? The Apple atmosphere is becoming more cult-like everyday. I bought an iPod and think it's a pretty nice device but that's it. A nice device. On quality of operating system, I like both operating systems and feel that they both have their pluses and minuses. The reason I haven't gotten a Mac is because I'm a gamer and because I like being able to have money after I buy my technology. Buying refurb is always a possibility but I'm talking about comparing new to new. To me the advantages of a Mac (video/image editing software) doesn't make it worth it to me. I know some people have problems with their PC's but I never really have (exception: Windows ME). It just amazes me that people are willing to pay such a premium for an Apple iPhone compared to any other phone on the market with a PROVEN user experience.
i bought the razr when it first came out..for like 4 bills....and this phone is clearly at least twice as good and has twice the wow factor..so i'll be happy to drop 6 bills on it..i'll be one of the many idiots waiting in line to buy this toy.. oh..im still on the razr..and its falling apart..lol need a new phone badly.. And im already on cingular..so it works out for me nicely
