I thought it was great that those guys were smiling during the performance. I hope this means they might tour....
Damn...I wish I would have known about that earlier. I'm jammin' to Steve Wonder in Philly right now.
We are just getting Pink Floyd now...Roger Waters plays a mean bass and sings...a mean..er,...he sings. Occassionally. They don't need to tour, incidentally. They are 60 year old men and don't have anything new to sing and have barely spoke to each other in 20 years.
I like you BMoney as you always seem to like similar stuff that I have but here is one time you don't know what you are talking about. Maybe you aren't that big of a Floyd fan but for people who have just discovered this band in the last 20 years or so, them going on tour WOULD BE MONUMENTAL. I mean you do realize that the last time the classic line-up of Gilmour, Waters, Mason, and Wright had played together until today was like friggin' 1980??!! I am sorry if I sound rude but watching Floyd perform was one of the greatest moments I have ever seen on TV. The only thing that would top it is to see them live and in person. Besides, if the Rolling Stones, the Who, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, etc can all go on tour, there ain't no way in hell anyone can tell me that Floyd are "too old" to tour. For a bunch of 60 year olds, they sure showed they could still play.
Just got home and was watching MTV butcher their broadcast had to find a better alternative. Yes, AOL has been broadcasting the concerts all day.
The London feed is replaying the entire days performances (U2 on now). Hope the rest of them do it as well.
Settle down, Beavis. I didn't post to rain on your parade. I am a dedicated fan, myself. I own *every* Pink Floyd album. I realize they haven't played since 1980. I also realize that "The Final Cut" was their last album with "the classic line-up" and the band was at a dead end back then. Quick: name the last good song that Roger Waters, or Dave Gilmour wrote since then? Hell, "Learning to Fly" is the only song most classic rock fans could *name* since "The Wall." I'm not talking about hits, I just thought the post Waters Floyd albums were sterile and attempted a safe approximation of the Pink Floyd sound. Roger Waters, himself, is just repeating the same themes he did in the 70's. Do you think the magic of "Animals" or "Meddle" is going to suddenly return just because these four men (who don't even like or have anything to do with one another) get back in the studio? When they write a song 1/20th as alive and fresh as *anything* from "Love and Theft" come talk to me. You are right that being at a creative dead-end doesn't prevent all of the other babyboomer dinosaurs from trodding the concert circuit. Of course, Floyd can tour and millions will love to see them. However, considering how much they hate each other and how little they are doing creatively, the only reasons for Pink Floyd to go back on tour together are nostalgia and cash. You and I both know that. There's nothing wrong with that, but Pink Floyd would be better off letting sleeping dogs lie. I think a lot of fans might be just as disillusioned as excited once they saw them touring. I mean, I want to see the 1980 Houston Oilers play another game, but I don't expect them to wheel out Earl Campbell and Carl Mauck and the boys to play the Patriots just because it would make me feel good. Tonight's appearence by Pink Floyd was special because they put aside their differences for something bigger than their own bank accounts.
I'll be honest...I'm not a Pink Floyd fan by any stretch and wouldn't pay to see them in concert. But they seemed to be on top of their game at the tonight. Who says they need to record new stuff to tour again? I'm sure most just want to hear the hits. I remember being at a Foreigner/Doobie Brothers concert about 10 years ago. In the middle of the Doobie Bros concert they started singing some of their new songs. I can still remember this chick from the row behind me yelling, "WE WANT TO HEAR THE OLD STUFF!!". That's a running joke now between me and a friend of mine.
