Nope, he never got to UH. He was a non-qualifier out of HS, so he went to San Jac. The bookstore incident occured at Memphis. ------------------
Excuse my ignorance aelliott, but what do you mean by Non-qualifier? Were his SATs too low or was something else wrong? And what happened in Memphis? Did he get kicked out of school? (Might be why he wasnt drafted). Last I remember of him was that he was doing good playing basketball in Memphis. I didnt know that he had any problems there. ------------------
Dude, Sneed's SAT score was ok, but his GPA was too low. No, he didn't get kicked off the team at Memphis. He was a good college player, but he wasn't (and isn't) and NBA prospect. Every year there are guys that put up good (or even great) college number and don't end up making it in the NBA. Most 6'6" power forwards aren't in too much demand in the NBA. Before anyone asks, no he can't play small forward. Outlaw, I stand corrected. I could have sworn that he got in trouble between his junior and senior years at Memphis, but apparently not. Anyway, despite the fact that he got into trouble on the UH campus, he never actually attended UH. ------------------
i can name one player who was better than gary payton, is from his neighborhood, and in my estimation still may be better than gp: JASON KIDD. gary & jason grew up together in oakland. gp says he "taught jason how to be tough." ------------------ miles ahead of the rest
Nah, couldn't be Kidd, it is Greg Foster ------------------ There better be a statue of Hakeem outside of the new downtown arena.
from the Chronicle February 6, 1998 "Sneed turns grudge into Houston loss" "I wanted to play well, just as I always want to play well, and to play against coach (Alvin) Brooks again," Sneed said. "All good players come through when their team needs them the most. I wasn't the only one." Brooks, who says he was told he could not recruit Sneed later at San Jacinto College because of an on-campus incident at UH following Sneed's high school career, wasn't surprised by the performance of his would-be recruit. "What can you expect?" Brooks said. "We signed a guy out of high school and then acted like we didn't want him. He was definitely motivated to come back here and play well. It's not like we didn't expect that." http://infoweb9.newsbank.com/bin/gate.exe?state=n2n85g.3.34&f=doc&p_nb_id=W58X5CCVOTU5OTY1MDgwLjQ2MDYwNzoxOjk6MTI5LjcuMS45&SQN=3032506&RGD=19980206&PROD=HCBF
I found this on Sneed. Aelliot said he wasnt a NBA prospect, but he sure looks like he was/is. He was listed on NBA.com as the draft spotlight last year. http://nba.com/draft99/playerfiles/omar_Sneed.html Nice stats. I wonder had Rashard gone to College if he could put up those numbers? I am not saying Omar is better, just thinking outloud as to why Sneed wasnt drafted? maybe he is troubled? ------------------
Thanks Outlaw I am sitting at home and was bored so I started searching for Sneed and found out he was drafted by the CBA by the Lightning. He was signed on November 4,1999 and released November 16,1999. Certainly couldnt have been due to lack of talent in only two weeks. He must have some problems or something because I also found a PreSeason article, when he was at Memphis in 1998, saying that he would be the Conference Player of the YEar. And would be the Best Forward in the conference. That is interesting considering who was thought to be the 2nd best... Kenyon Martin. Sneed was a Senior, Martin a junior. I found that interesting. I guess some guys just cant get their heads straight or something.. I dont know about Sneed, but guys like Cecil Collins, and Lawrence Phillips, etc.. I am sure there are some VERy talented players out there that never make the NBA, NFL, etc. just because they cant keep their head in the right place. Anyway, sorry for rambling. Just something I found interesting to see about him and Martin. [This message has been edited by DUDE (edited June 02, 2000).]
