As far as I've gotten into it, there has been a legit attempt at #5. I don't think this has been a kids series for the last 3 books or so.

Looks like all those pics showing all the pages of the book were in fact legit.

‘Potter’ Peeks Prove to Be Genuine

    By MOTOKO RICH
    Published: July 20, 2007

When photos of what appeared to be every single page of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the eagerly awaited seventh and final installment in the wildly successful series by J. K. Rowling, started flooding various Internet file-sharing services on Monday night, nobody could know for sure whether they were the real thing or an elaborate hoax.

But it turns out that they were, in fact, the genuine article. The New York Times bought a copy of the book in a New York store on Wednesday and compared it with the images posted on the Web.

The amateurish photos showed each pair of facing pages of the book laid out on a beige red-and-green-flecked looped carpet and held open by somebody’s fingers. Some of the photos made the pages difficult to read, but the ending, upon which fervent speculation has centered for months, was completely decipherable.

Scholastic, the United States publisher of the “Harry Potter” series, called numerous Web sites and asked them to take down the material. In one case, the publisher filed for a subpoena against Gaia Online, a social networking and gaming site, ordering the company to remove photos uploaded by a user.

The publisher also tried to deflect attention from the photos by telling reporters and fans that there were other seemingly authentic images appearing on Flickr, the photo-sharing site, as well as a video of someone holding the book on YouTube, the video site.

On Tuesday some customers started receiving copies of the actual book from an online retailer, DeepDiscount.com. On Wednesday, Scholastic sued the retailer’s parent company, Infinity Resources, and Levy Home Entertainment, DeepDiscount.com’s distributor, for “flagrant violations” of their contracts, which stated that they could not ship any books before July 20, to ensure that no customer would receive a copy before 12:01 a.m. on July 21, the official on-sale date.

Well, yea, those photos came out a few days after the chapter titles were leaked. I don't think anyone could have written a 759 page novel in that time, especially one that good.

Just finished reading it and I must say I loved it. From the battle on everything just seemed to fall into place perfectly. I know some people had some doubts about the final chapter but for me it ended the story perfectly.

    The book was incredible...as expected.

Even though this is a spoilers thread, I'll wait to post anything until more people get a chance to finish the book.

You can always use the spoilers tag. Anyone that clicks on it when it says "Spoiler" deserves anything they get.

    I have a real question.

Why did the Elder Wand pass from Dumbledore to Draco?

Because Draco was the last person to disarm Dumbledore as he was returning to the castle after being at the cave with Harry

Finished it a little while ago, and overall, I thought she did a great job trying to tie up as many loose ends as possible (no small feat, considering the side and scope of the series). So...

    Things I liked:
    - How she handled Dumbledore. She made him more human, less infallible. Very believable.
    - Most of the deaths. As with any battle, there are going to be casualties. I liked that she didn't restrict the deaths to satellite characters that we cared nothing about. Some fan favorites didn't make it, and I think that's ok.
    - Story structure. Having the bulk of the story occur away from Hogwarts was brilliant, and really brought home how the game had changed totally.
    - Ron and Hermione's kiss. That was really cute, and cemented the relationship that they everyone had been waiting for.

    Things I didn't like:
    - The death of Fred. Just seemed unecessary, and thrown in for shock value. Beside, you can't have a George without a Fred! C'mon.
    - The death of Snape. Don't get me wrong: Snape needed to die. And I like that he gave his memories to Harry before kicking the bucket. It was just a bit annoying that he died, basically, for nothing (i.e. - Voldemort being wrong about controlling the Elder Wand). It would have been nice if his death had had a bit more meaning.
    - Harry lives. J.K. Rowling took the easy way out. I'm dissappointed. Not to mention, this leaves them open for (the inevitable, I'm sure) sequals. I would have much preferred a heroic sacrifice at the end.
    - The Epilogue. Just a wee bit cheesy.

Overall, a great end to the story.

just finished reading it, overall very satisfactory, great ending to a epic novel that i pretty much grew up reading

my only complaints is how she killed harry's owl , wish it would have been something more, like trying to gouge lord V's eyes out or something. But that said i feel it was necessary to give the people a feeling that harry was really cut off from the world while he was in hiding.

I stopped reading at book 4, so the spoiler didn't matter to me. But is this bug with the spoilers fixable? Even though the post now has the spoiler tag, you can still see through it by putting the mouse over thread. Since people like to use this method to view what a thread is about, it could've really messed up some people.

Btw, Harry and Ginny? When did that came about? And since they have kids, does this mean we're going to have another 7 books about the school years of their children?

Any one able to find a link to J K Rowling saying she has not ruled out an 8th book. I only heard about it today.

With the ending I could see her extending it to the kids.
