The Celts commentators were also saying that Rockets were playing a zone defense. It wasn't obvious to me, so can someone let me know what type of zone defense was that? Also, is this zone defense a new thing or it has been happening a while?
Dallas Rocket, I thought the Celts did not try to take it inside. In the 3rd quarter, they were setting picks to get their man free inside, but in the 4th quarter, they pulled a Rockets and started to stay on the perimeter and go one on one.
DR - You're right. Gorman was stumped for something to say after Tommy went off. You think Heinsohn would have had enough sense to calm down after the replays (Mobley's "foul" on Pierce, Bremers "foul" on Francis) showed he was wrong. I guess even announcers can have bad games on occassion!
For better or worse, we have Tommy to thank for the abolition of the Legends Game. He destroyed that one.
That was hilarious. I watched that part again on the rebroadcast just to hear Calvin. "Alright, now the Rockets win the tip . . . {silence} . . . the Celtics are going to trap at every opportunity . . . {silence} . . . "
Man, he should take away some tommy point for his whine yesterday ... talking bout being a homer, dude just crying outta his ARSE
You should read...er, I know it's a book by Dave Barry; maybe "Guide to Guys" or something like that? He lived in Philadelphia, had 76ers season tickets, was watching a game from courtside with his buddy, somehow a couple of Boston fans were sitting behind them. He says that a Celtics fan contains about 30% of the world's smugness. Larry Bird, of all people, blew the game on free throws. Barry and his friend jumped up, whirled around with hands cupped to ears; and of course the Boston fans, for the first time that night, had nothing to say. I'm paraphrasing of course. It's a pretty good read.
I never liked Heinson even back when NBC/CBS (can't remember, I think CBS) had him doing national playoff games (unless my memory is failing some of which included Bird vs Dr. J or Magic). As someone who despised the Celts, it always pissed me off they had guys like him (and Bill Russell) who were so clearly biased for the Celts. I have watched other Boston games, and it is far from the only time he has lost control and come off like a total ass. One time early this season at a game at the Fleet center (I think Boston lost late) he was going off like a call (maybe an offensive foul on Battie or Pierce) "was the worst travesty in league history" (I think it was actually a good call too, at a minimum it was borderline). Sorry I can't remember more specifics, but I remember the reaction pretty well because it stuck out above even other homer reactions. I do think Cosimore (sp?, Sac guy) and the Spurs guys are fairer than Heinson. To me what was really funny about the ESPN replay is they say something like "play by play....by the voice of objectivity (chuckle)... Tommy Heinson" or the like. They were poking fun and him going off out of control like the average drunk fan in your local sports bar.
