Why does it not surprise me that giddyup characterizes a failure to discuss Hitler's good qualities as narrow-minded.
That doesn't even remotely resemble what I said. I didn't even imply that Hitler had good qualities. Hitler won political victories before he even waged war or committed crimes against humanity. At least be honest, Batman... As for the rest of "you people," ... you are just being too emotional about this. You are self-limited by the "first thing you think of" when the name of Hitler or Stalin is suggested. Sowell is a scholar and a syndicated columnist of over 30 years not some self-appointed shock-blogger. Obama was described as a pragmatist (like Hitler) not as Hitlerian. There's a real difference in those two descriptions. You have to be hysterical about it to not recognize that. Clearly Obama has committed no crimes against humanity, so there's no point of comparison there.
Okay, you're right. Let's cut through the BS. You heart racists and hate mongers. How's that for honest? A+, no?
It's a darned shame that Ed Gein isn't really appreciated for his sense of interior design. Everytime I bring him up, people think I want to talk about the serial murdering stuff, and I'm all like, but wait, I was paying your living room a compliment when I said it was "very Ed Gein."
Show me where I said that there needs to be a discussion of Hitler's good qualities... and we can put this to rest. I know; you can't. Show me where I "heart" racists and hate mongers. Yes, I have defended people like Coulter, Hagee, Sowell and even Ted Nugent, by God. But my primary defense of them has been from sophomoric vitriol spewed by the likes of you rather than a defense of their often but not always totally porous ideas. Hi-ho... and away!!!!
You asked us to overlook his bad qualities. Pretty much the same thing. And certainly equally ridiculous.
What? He wasn't writing an in depth study of those people for scholars. Why are you pretending that he wasn't inferring Obama was like Hitler and Stalin. It's simple, he was. That isn't OK with me, and it's sad that it's OK with you.

Show me where I asked that. I believe what I did is point out that Sowell's "comparison" was limited to a common pragmatism-- which was a brief political analysis.
Well, be sad I guess. You are setting up to be sad if everyone doesn't agree with you about an opinion on someone's political agenda. Sowell has a right to issue warnings about Obama that he feels are justified-- even if he chooses to do so by inference. You all act like this is the first political reference to Hitler or Stalin in history...
I'm not saying he doesn't have a right. I've never said that. I think several people have said that other comparisons to Hitler were also bad and unwarranted. But because someone has a right to do something, doesn't make it a good thing to do.
I agree with giddyup here. Sowell is just saying that he considers Obama dangerously extremist, and Obama's pragmatism doesn't change that view. He's not drawing an sort of equivalence between Obama's so called extremism and Hitler's. Suppose there was this (silly) notion that white males over 40 can not be extremist, and Bush supporters made that argument. Well, I happen to think Bush was dangerously extremist, and I think to dispel that ridiculous idea it would be appropriate for me to say "Um, what about Hitler?" That does not mean I'm saying Bush is as bad or close to as bad as Hitler.
