Lol I've driven all the way to Tampa Bay in FL. The touristy areas are well groomed, but a lot of it is not that nice. I wouldn't call it Posh by any stretch. The items you listed are geared towards middle-income Americans going broke to take a once in 10 years vacation. That's not 'Posh' Lipstick on a Pig is the term that comes to mind.
It's *a* Culture. "Just because you are a character, doesn't mean you have character." -- Winston Wolf
This is my take on it too. In terms of developed areas (suburban and urban) AND capital it's hard to top.
That list may have some posh cities, but when you have ghettos, white trash, homeless camps, rednecks, high murder rates, and some of the most uninsured people in the country you sure can't call your state posh. That pretty much strikes the list. If I think of a posh state I would have to go with Connecticut or New Hampshire over those choices.
Having been all over the USA for long periods of time.... yeah there are some really posh parts of Texas, and the state now is overall posh compared to a lot of states. A lot of money in Texas and a lot of people from other posh places moving in.
Yeah, but that's pretty much every state. I can find that in Colorado, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, etc. I just never thought of the state as a whole as being "posh". Sure there are suburban enclaves in DFW, Austin, and Houston suburbs that have $500k-$700k+ houses, but I'm not even sure I'd qualify those as being "posh". That's getting to be middle-to-upper middle class. When I think of that word being applied to entire states, I just don't see it. When I think of entire states being posh (whether realistic or not), just like @deb4rockets, I may think many of the New England states, but to me, it's all about specific zipcodes and communities moreso than entire states. Like where the average household income is over $300k. BTW, wth is "posh"? lol. Wealthy? Snobby? Combination?
At first, I was fully expecting to read "having been all over the World for long periods of time.... the US on whole is posh" Fact is, if you have a house and car.... you've surpassed 95% of the planet This country has fat homeless people and supermarkets who routinely discard hundreds of pre-made sandwiches every month for being one day passed expiration
