I guess in both movies, the Knicks fans are delusional.

Your problem is that you can't seem to envision Asians without them being foreigners.

What if movie A were about an Ohio guy who happened to be Asian?

I hate what this thread has become.

I just wanted to come here and wish the OP good luck. And ask anyone who would know better than I: is $117,000 a lot for a small documentary like this?

I think the world is catching up, give it another decade and I believe we'll see a more diverse Hollywood. I read a recent report that China will become the biggest revenue market for movies in the coming 5 years. Obviously the Asian companies realize that trend and are looking to take a piece of the US entertainment business knowing this is where it starts. I think they're just learning how to appeal to the US market and will eventually become a significant part of it.

They're already making big investments here - AMC was recently purchased by a chinese company and TCL just bought the naming rights to Hollywood's Chinese Theater. We already know how popular Asian media products are (with HTC, LG, Samsung, Hisense, Haier, etc.) and with more media streaming on TVs, tablets, and smartphones these companies know that to win this game they're going to have to establish stronger connections to the entertainment business. Be prepared to see more Asians being relevant in entertainment.

Nah, it won't make a difference unless Asians demand to see Asians on the big screen - or white people are able to accept watching non-white actors on the screen and identify them.

Sony bought Columbia Pictures and it still didn't change a thing.

I wouldn't say it's a lot of money for a doc film shot on a HD cam, but the travel expense to follow Lin around for each game and the NBA license fees for game footage add up quickly.

If this film gets good reviews @ Sundance then they'll probably be able to make anywhere from $250k to a few million by selling the distribution rights.

Times are certainly changing. For example, had Justin Lin not been part of "The Fast and the Furious", there never would've been the character of Han.

Hopefully, both Asian-American and Asian will become more savvy consumers and demand better representation if Hollywood wants their money. For far too long, Asian-Americans have been aspiring to be White in their consumer patterns, which is why nobody caters to Asian-Americans despite their purchasing power.

No because he realized that being a modernist human is more important. I've been in the Asian bandwagon before and learned nothing but shallowness, smoking, and absolute cynicism.

You know how ridiculous that sounds right? First of all, what is "the Asian bandwagon"? Second, what does shallowness, smoking and cynicism have to do with being Asian? You should have told Martin Luther King Jr. to chill out and become a "modernist human".

I think someone mentioned him. The big question is how long will he stay alive.

For sure one of the best written characters played by an Asian male. It would be interesting to see if Glenn was Asian in the Comic book version.

BTW, anyone old enough to remember "Big Trouble in Little China"? I know it's got tons of bad Asian sterotypes in it, but it was a fun movie.

He is in the comic book version, same plot line, but don't read the comics if you don't want to get spoiled.

There are a few discrepancies with the comic book though, so we'll see how that plays out. For one, Rick loses is right hand to the Governor in the comic book, that doesn't happen in the TV series. The comic book writer actually said that he regrets the decision, because he'd come up with an idea, then he would have to scrap it because of Rick's missing hand.

Glenn is the same as he was in the comics and I prefer the comics more so than the tv show...

Modernist human? At the expense of being a bigot towards your own culture?
    Asian bandwagon? Huh?

I wonder if YaoMac also thinks that Hollywood wasn't racist towards blacks too? Maybe he should listen to Public Enemy's "Burn Hollywood Burn" or watch Robert Townsend's "Hollywood Shuffle."
