An update as the Oct.3rd deadline for some of the tugg events draws near. More cities have reached their threshold: Atlanta, GA Newport, KY Sterling Heights, MI Amherst, NY Webster, NY And Webster is now sold out. The Newport screening in Kentucky is by a sorority. That should be interesting, a movie theater packed with college co-ed sorority fan girls just for the Jeremy Lin movie. When the La Mirada, CA, site first sold out, it was maxed out at 135 tickets, but now I see it's maxed out at 200. I guess there were enough people signing up for the wait-list after it sold out that the cineplex decided to move the screening from a smaller theater room into a larger theater screening room with more seats. I'm not surprised Amherst made the threshold, since that's where the University at Buffalo guys are who made that Linsanity Movie flash mob youtube clip. The San Antonio and La Mirada screenings will air tomorrow, both sold out.
The cool part is, anyone can host a Tugg event, anywhere in the US. And you get to keep 5% of the ticket sales. So if you can sell out a 200 seat theater, w/ $10 a ticket admission ... that's $2,000, and you get to keep $100 for yourself You don't even need to show up at the screening. I wonder if I can host a bunch of these events in cities where Linsanity is not showing.
Thanks for the updates. It's pretty cool to see the support and in cities you never would of thought of.
You can, assuming you're a social media maven and have great connections and ability to rustle up enough people to attend. Spread the word on twitter, facebook, etc, look up the local churches and christian groups and bible studies and email them, do the same for local indie film enthusiast mailing lists, Asian American groups, basketball enthusiast and YMCA contacts, local schools and universities and youth groups with young guys interested in basketball, Ivy league alumni lists, etc. Do that in a few cities and you might earn some nice cash. Big cities probably have more people to target. You would probably make more money spending the equivalent amount of time investment in a job, though. Though this is a nice way for organizations like sororities, church groups, and Asian American civic groups, and indie film clubs and such to fundraise. And I think you get free cool merchandising pack for hosting an event.
Nice Slate interview with Lin. Lin being Lin. http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat...remy_lin_interview_about_new_documentary.html
