Interesting that there's no choice saying that both can or will do well. Only one or the other. Love it when people pit one against the other.
Lin's 2/3 court passes are a well known feature of his game that his fans tout as well. There have been multiple threads and videos made of Lin's QB-like passing, esp to Melo. Lin's passing is underrated for some strange reason. Some have said that he can't alley oop, that he can't bounce pass, he can't pass in a p&r situation.. It's ridiculous. Here's one game where he barely even played in the 4th quarter showcasing some of his passing skills. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V9oMhS67xs&feature=related <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6V9oMhS67xs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Rubio will have a harder time living up to his hype. He is a first rounder draft prospect picked 5th overall. He was making all the noise in Europe and U.S, kept Minny and the NBA waiting to see what all this noise was about. If he can find a way to stay healthy and fix that broken jump shot, he will definitely live up to his hype. The dude is so crafty with tons of potential. Since he can't really score, he shall be labeled as a "pure" point guard whatever that means. Lin on the other hand was not hyped, in a traditional way that is. Scouts ignored, undrafted, bounce around the NBA like some cheap hooker. The only "hype" if you want to call it that, is from the media blowing it all up because he reminded them of this back up qb that couldn't throw the football. Also, ended up saving the NYK season by stepping in as a last option because they were desperate. Yes, not because they wanted to give him a legit chance but because all there pg's were injured and they had no other options. Lin will probably not live up to his linsanity linderella media driven "hype" but he will overachieve based on what everyone has overlooked throughout his career. He is a promising finisher/scorer, decent jumpshot that may further improve, and control the game pace as a floor leader. He will have to work on his lefty and turnovers.
Asik's dunks and blocked shots are off the charts. In 3 years Asik will be the best C in the league. FAIL.
GM's and fans have been over-hyping euro's to a laughable extent for a long time. Darko, Kukoc, Kirilenko, Rubio were all supposed to be unique once in a generation type talents. Only Dirk in all these years has lived up to the hype. Pau couldn't even get his team to the playoffs. Let these guys just play. Rubio has a serious defect to fix since he can only make 1 in 3 shots.
Rubio has great innate PG skills and is a joy to watch. I believe that he will eventually fix his shot and hope that he will be a great player in the end. Pau is underrated. I think he's the best player on his team! He is just so skilled and unfairly criticized for being weak. Bynumite is inconsistent thus far, though he clearly has beast in him. Kobe doesn't play the game the right way and his best days are many a years behind him, though I love his competitiveness.
Pau is a very good player, of course. But he doesn't have the heart to challenge Kobe and the coach to make himself a no. 1 option. Shaq did, but that was a different story. Pau is just not aggressive enough for the American game and as a result his abilities remain almost criminally under-exploited. He's an under-achiever for sure, largely due to his relatively passive personality. A bit too nice for 'thug life.'
I wouldn't dismiss Rubio from becoming one of the best PGs in the league in 3-5 years. I expect that as well. I don't know about the best, though.
Point being, all of those euros were projected as being potential category busting all stars capable of playing multiple positions and of being stars in this league for years. Only Dirk has lived up to the billing. Pau has been terribly inconsistent or rather a consistent under-achiever. Odds are Rubio falls somewhere in between: not Dirk, not Darko. I saw Rubio play plenty at the start of the season: he rarely forces the issue and makes a few sweet passes here and there but otherwise plays within the flow of the offense rather than attacking. He's a good, fundamentally sound player with a little bit of flash. There's little to indicate that he will be a Kidd level player, which is what he will have to be to become an all nba caliber top 15 player. I see his ceiling as an occasional all star, maybe 3 or 4 all star games in a 12 year career. He can't score as well as top PG's and he doesn't have the attacking mentality of a PG like Rondo. This "pure" PG rubbish is a euphemism for excusing his inability to shoot. It hurts his team, plain and simple.
Do you understand what generic means? Regardless, it's pretty sad that a "layup scorer" was shooting .300 from the field.
This whole thread is a non starter. Even the title is a slant of both players.... Case in point... live up to the hype?. And why is there a Hip-Hop poll?... I know people are bored as hell at this point of the "slow water and no wind" part of the NBA season ... But J-Lin and Rubio will both do well.. Their has been way too much Dnightmare crap posted on the boards and way too many r****ded: ( If I were the Rockets GM...!!! I would do this, and get this, and trade him for this guy, and still f..k my wife hard each night better than you screw your wife!!) posts!! Like most of you I want to get things going.. But I don't want the Diva crap from male NBA players!.. It's the NBA and not the WNBA!.. Why are the men not manning any more? Why is the WNBA not full of whiny baby's like the NBA is ?
based on discussions here, we should trade lin for a sack of potatoes and offer to trade rubio for $10m a year for 5 years (a steal at this price given he is almost guaranteed all star right?) i hope those of you with this view post your professions. if you are in some banking/money management businesses, i need to make sure my money stay away from you
what is the pure pg bullshxt come from? kidd's defence especially rebound was off the chart, do you expect rubio to be the same looking at his kmart type of body build?
